Does it wipe my priiloader setup? If so, providing everything works, what's the point?

It didn't wipe anything for me. Just replaced or installed needed files to get games that normally didn't work running. The instruments to Rock band 2 even works now...

You of course have the choice to not replace and install files. You can do a checkup first and then the program will point out what it can install. I find the checkup good enough, not knowing all the IOS's I have installed or not installed. Now I just got a list. I mean, now I knew Metroid needed IOS222, saw directly that I didn't have that..and just installed it thru the program. Insteed of searching the net for the file the Pimp my wii will just download it and install it for you.

Of course I'm not the developer, so I can't be 100% sure that it won't fuck up your system. But it worked great for me..and many other also Smile

Watched the gametrailers review on this.
I know gamtrailers are usually shit but it's at least a possibility so see some gameplay footage.
And I think me likey big time.
Will grab this as soon as I'm back home.

Just installed Pimp Wii 2.02. It did upgrade my system to 4.1 and also made my Homebrew channel upside down. However, everything still works (USB drive is found and all my backups boot). So, I dont know. Got me worried there for a second.

So now I need to figure out how to make my homebrew channel normal view again. Did I screw anything up by updating to 4.1?

if, after running Pimp My Wii, you get the inverted Homebrew Channel, simply use the hackmii installer to uninstall and reinstall the HBC. You must use [or already have used] Pimp My Wii to install an original IOS34 with no patches. this is done by default using pass the test and fix problems or by pressing (-) for safe mode, manual install, only install IOS34 without patches, then hackmii installer.

As for PMW itself; I'm not touching that shit. Causes too many issues and I especially don't like the idea of having 4.3 forced on me, I'm quite happy on 4.0E thanks Wink The only reason anyone would ever need PMW is if they're complete beginners to softmodding and don't want to tinker with anything "under the hood", so to speak. Even then, I still recommend ignoring PMW anyway .... do it yourselves, it's a learning experience.

Pimp does not force 4.3. It installs 4.1 instead. It also asks you if you want to choose YES or NO for each one.

Im hoping 4.1 is OK to stay on. Next time I run Pimp - im only saying YES to the IOS.

running wiitard's version it always freezes during the cgi scene after the tutorial.

i've had PMW as part of the softmodding tutorial i used but can't get it past that movie.

Yeah, 4.1 is great =) 4.2 is fine as well, it's only 4.3 that's a problem right now ... slowly becoming more tweaked, but still not perfect like .0/.1/.2

Thanks for the clarification on the 4.3 forced update, I was given that impression from the readme blurb on the newest PMW release. Still not touching it though. Prefer to teach myself and do it properly Wink

I got the Homebrew Channel right side up now. I just ran an update in upside down mode. It booted into HackMii and asked me to install Homebrew channel. I chose YES and now I believe I have the latest homebrew channel..right side up.

So all is working fine now.. Pimp did pimp my WII..but almost gave me a heart attack. Now I have to install Metroid to test...

Wiitard freezed here as well at the same point as yours. Bad dump. Back to the p2p release that works fine.

I think I read that you have to remove the update partition to stop the crash. I may be wrong though, I didn't have to but I ran it off USB.

I beat this on Friday, thought it was alright at best. I'm a huge metroid fan too.

it's definitely not the update partition, cause i had to remove it to get the game to run anyway. but maybe removing it screws up the layerbreak or somethign like that, who knows

Does the proper work via USB drive using USBLoader Configurator? I run all my games from the External Harddrive... As long as it works via USB drive, it works for me!

Mini review

I played about 3 hours now. I think the game is great, one of the best Wii has to offer. It feels more like the old Metroid games then the Prime-serie. Chronologicly it take place right after Super Metroid on SNES. It even starts with a great pre-rendered version of what happened in the final battle in Super Metroid, at least game me nostalgic feelings.

One thing that are different in this game focus on Samus as character. Many have also criticised that because she's been the quiet type in all other games. Here your for the first time hear her voice. But she actually showed some of that in the GBA-version too, but only in text. Here you'll have her having flashback from her time in the galactix federation, her relation to her superiors etc. It does feel weird first, but I think for most part it is well made, a bit cheesy at times but I think it works.

The game itself are more like a mix between 2D and 3D, with a little ninja gaiden thrown in to it. You run from room to room and kill enemys and solve small puzzel problems. There's some backtracking too because you bump into places you can't reach without proper equipment, like it worked in all other metroid games. When I think about it, it's not far from Castlevania - Lament of Innocense on Ps2. The game is not liner, but not as open as Super Metroid either. It's a bit more combat heavy then the other games too.

The controls works for most part really well, you play it with the wiimote sideways (like a NES-pad). If you point the wiimote against the screen you switch to first person view, like in Prime. Problem here is that you can scan and fire your weapon, but you can't move. It can call for some frustrations in some bossfights, when you have to switch to fps-mode to fire of a missile while being fired upon. Otherwise the game has autoaim, so you do not have to hunt down the enemies and if yout tap the D-pad in the right moment while a monster attacks Samus does some dodge moves.

All in all I really like this game and think they have done a great job. It's not perfect, but I like the direction. Mostly because I like how the fleshed out Samus, and you got some back story to her life. Also because this is the follow up to one of the best game of all time (According to me), Super Metroid. This is also the only serie Nintendo dare to experiment a little with. Zelda and Mario games will always be what they are. Metroid at the other hand they tried new stuff with, similar maybe how the Alien movies are kind of different type movies all of them? To me this game is a 7/10, and I'm planing to buy it. I believe the problems I have with this game can be fixed to the next part.

I have two old 27'' TV's about 15 years ago, and both do NOT play PAL games.
USB Configurate gives you an option to 'force NTSC' on a US TV, so that solves the problem.

I have to run to the store, but I'll give a very brief pros and cons of the game from my perspective.

Pros: For the most part, it's Metroid. All your firepower from the previous games(save spazer) is back. There's some great throw backs to previous series and that tickled me on the inside. The graphics are the best on the wii and the FMVs are pretty enjoyable to watch. It's a pretty tough game, and I enjoyed that aspect of it. The controls are very simple and easy to get used to.

Cons: The controls are too simple. The combat is pretty terrible because of the simple controls. You just run around, charge up, and then face your enemy and release. You can't move back or dodge while shooting enemies. You can always do a quick dodge by hitting the...directional pad (which you're probably already hitting). If you want to use your most powerful weapons(missiles and super missiles), then you have to switch to first person mode, which you CANNOT MOVE AT ALL during. Doing this mid-fight is often very frustrating, although eventually you get the hang of it. Also, the story is absolutely terrible. They throw it in your face over and over and over, and Samus' narrative is so bad that I actually rolled my eyes several times IRL.

I'd probably give it an 8.0 because it's a Metroid, or a 6.0 if it was a new IP. I like the change of 2D/3D gameplay, but it could've been so much better if they had changed just a few things.
I miss Retro Studios...

1. I used the iND release.
2. All I had to do was update my cios 249 from rev 14 to rev 19. I had to do that in order to play off my fat32 hdd.
3. I used cfg usb loader. I used the wbfs_file command prompt tool to convert my iso image to a .wbfs image and removed the update partition during the process( -g option in wbfs_file ).

Hope this helps! There's a long thread over at gbatemp about this game, you might have more luck in there.
