Looks like one of those few games that would be worth buying in ages.

Can't go wrong with PC only title!

It won't even have wonder movies, I really liked those. Sad

Yeah, it saddens a little bit as movies gave a sense of achievement, that you pulled the wonder off. But then I remembered on how I play Civ 4, after seeing movies for a couple of times they become an annoyance, so I play with movies disabled.

Yeah that was Firaxis's reasoning as well - they said it's too much effort for something most people will watch only once or a few times. But I'm not one of them, I watch the movies every time since like you said it adds to the sense of achievement.

Then again I usually play on snail speed (3500 turns iirc) so after making a wonder for 100 turns, getting just a "You have completed Stonehenge.." text feels a bit anticlimactic. Very Happy

I play only at Epic speed, tried Marathon speed a couple of times but couldn't get to like it. You build a scout for many, many turns. He starts exploring, and with every movement he makes you pray "Please no bears, please no bears", gods remain silent to your prayers, and on his last movement turn he ends up on forested mountain next to a river and next to a river, you guessed, a bear Very Happy "Oh, shit" is your first reaction, but then you start to calm yourself down "Nah, scout has 100% against animals, he is on a forested hill giving him 75% defense and there is a river giving a bear 25% attack penalty. That scout would totally pwn a bear". Next turn bear attacks, and as battle animation take a bit longer than usually a painful realization comes into your mind "Your scout is fucked" and few seconds later "Noooooooooooooo", the bear is triumphant Shocked Laughing

Now, you have no more units and the only thing left to do is meditating with a little red end of turn button for next ~ 30 turns Crying or Very sad

Well, inz, you definitely do have much more Zen inside you than I do. And I fully understand why you want wonders movies back Very Happy

I play Rise of Mankind (with A New Dawn, which adds/improves things even further)

You can find it here
http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=269

Version 2.x features (probably a bit outdated by now but you get the gist of it)

 Spoiler:

Mind you, not everyone likes it (it DOES have a lot of units like advanced mechs and super soldiers, clones and what not in the future/transhuman eras) but all in all it's a lot of fun and well thought-out overall.

Part of the tech tree (again, a bit outdated but should give you an idea about the scope of the game):

http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/15/14429/rom_2.8_tech_tree_part_1_original.jpg

Edit: for reference's sake, here's the start of the tech free in my current game (mods for RoM can make a big difference as you can see)

Seems demo is gonna be out on release day. So no pre-ordering for me then.
Hadn't had the chance to play much at gamescom. Oh well. Gonna pirate the shit out of it and then decide Very Happy

its your choice, and playing the battle yourself can for sure change what might of happened on the auto resolve.

aye it does have autoresolve. but for real it sucks donkyballs. an army you can beat easy if you play the battle it self. might win against your army if you let the computer lead the battle.

Auto resolve always sucked.
Just remember the naval battles in Rome: Total War Very Happy
Even if you had a superiority in numbers you'd probably lose.
Sometimes I really hate to fight the battles myself but auto resolve is never an option.

I can't wait for this one....

I've probably gotten more hours of fun from the civ series than all other games combined.

Heh they didn't even bother getting a Civ V screenshot for that news article. Very Happy

Not that one review is really indicative of anything yet, but I'm hopeful it'll be a worthwhile game despite the drastic changes.

Exclusive review, game is finished it seems and in processing (Based on the Steam listing and those pre-order thingies in there or what they are.) still no way to actually acquire it though.

That review is by the same guys who claimed that Dragon Age is the "RPG of the decade" meaning better than Witcher, Deus Ex, Baldurs Gate II + ToB, The Gothic series, etc.
Their opinion is null.
