Just finished it and it was meh, Metro2033 wasn't nearly as linear as this, and it had more engaging story. 11h on hard, ridiculously easy due to derp regen: get hit > reload > pop out taking a guy out > get hit > repeat.

No country side, the city is exceptionally small and the only time you get to use molotov is to burn down a PhysX tech demo shack Rolling Eyes

Started playing the game yesterday..after an hour of tweaking the game runs fine now with all details on Max and Apex on high - on a GTX 285. I only had to remove clothing physics for everyone except Vito and disable the (useless) AA. Framerate went up 100%.

Played for a few hours, now at Chapter 3. This game has a lot in common with Shenmue. No wonder so many derps find it boring. Very Happy Awesome game.

Multiple endings based on how you played the game, yes, Mafia 2 is more linear than Metro.

I don't consider Metro's multiple endings anything more than a gimmick. There's no real change in gameplay.

I saw the other 2-3 endings on YT, no fucking way I'd replay the exact same game to get a different ending.

Actualy switching from full-on-rape-mode to stealth-don't-kill-anyone-on-level and finding all the secrets is quite a change in the gameplay. I was enjoying replaying Metro whereas I wanted to delete Mafia at the soap_drop chapter. Especialy I found the character recycling hilarious, how the same afro-american model was recycled and there were 4 same inmates standing next to each other.

But the actual game is still linear no matter how you play and what ending you get, the levels layout and missions are all the same as the next time you'll play it. Metro 2033 is about as linear as you can get. At least in Mafia 2 you can go off the beaten track, do other things before you take on the next mission or just ride around the open city. Metro demands you go from point A to point B. This is the most ridiculous comparison I have ever heard.

So changing a playstyle and getting a completely different ending is irrelevant to game's linearity? I think you are confusing linearity with open world.

The game is pushing you on a single rail, who cares you can go make more money when you will lose it all next chapter. You can not deviate the story in any way, and taking more time before going on next mission is equivalent to picking your nose, it's not relevant to the story at all, ergo it's a rail shooter that allows you to take stops in order to take a dump, but then keeps on going the same way.

Lol, Metro is a 200% corridor shooter, there are only a few stages where you can sneak past enemies.

Anyway, whatever.

Interior detail/graphics. Vitos default jacket is similar to Ryu's. Work at the Port. Fulfilling petty tasks. And the first walk through empire bay with the barber shop, cats etc very much felt like walking through Christmas night Yokosuka.

Exactly. Splinter Cell Conviction can be played with different levels of stealth and has two endings it doesn't make it any less linear as a game.

You could have just described Metro 2033 perfectly as well in that paragraph, except in Metro I cannot actually decide to take time out to "pick my nose" or "take a dump".

By your standard, Crysis is one hell of a non-linear game then mate. This game is about as linear as it gets. Sure, you've got this open world to drive in. And what can you do in it exactly? That's right, nothing. I haven't had to buy a gun yet, nor have I gone to eat anything because I simply don't have to. The only "other" thing I've done in that open world is upgrade a couple of cars, just so I can get through the 60% of the game that consists of "Drive to X" a bit faster. There's nothing useful to do in that world, so if just having an open world means non-linear to you, then there's been a hell of a lot of non-linear games in the past couple of years.

Well, granted those are somewhat similar but that's about it.
Shenmue is (to me) a way better game than this. But then again to me Shemue is one of the most innovative titles ever created.
(btw. Dreamcast emulation still sucks major balls, doesn't it? I wanna play Shenmue again Crying or Very sad )

That's the point. You can actually do that stuff. I'm not denying the game is linear in it's mission structure because it is. The fact I can do something else before proceeding on my mission is what makes it a hell of a lot less linear than the quite frankly bizarrely compared Metro. That game is a linear corridor shooter with absolutely nothing to do except for what the game wants you to do. You see where i'm going with this?

Oh and as for Crysis, it's mission structure and story may be linear, but again the gameplay is non linear because there a multiple paths to finish the level, not just a straight route of corridors.

All five of the "accessory" DLC appear to have been released.
(Made Man, Vegas, Renengade, War Hero and Greaser pack.)

EDIT: Greaser pack and War Hero pack seems to be missing the outfits.

The 1st Mafia was even more linear. There was tons of driving with slower cars and you had to stop on red lights. I don't recall people bitching about it (but i'm sure they did). I prefer having a linear approach to the story, than having lots of side gimmicks that take me away from the main plot to the point that when i decide to go back to it, i completely forgot what it was i was being told.

I also prefer to have a city or an island in a linear game, like Far Cry/Crysis/Mafia, than a bunch of corridors, lousily blocked by invisible walls, piles of cars/trash or fake locked doors like cod/metro/etc.

But that's just my opinion. I'm sure lots of other people feel exactly the opposite.
