The entire game is a joke , Its like watching a movie or reading a book.
half of the time you drive to point A , watch cutscene , drive to point B , watch another cutscene , drive home , with the occasional fist fights and gun fights ... half of the missions are bullshit.
It's really easy to not see it , But if you think about it ... how many times have you Drove to point A , watched a cutscene and returned ?
When joe is drunk ...
when you go to that old man's mansion ... half the "missions" are driving .
what a ripoff ,
Game standards these days are bullshit , How can this novel book get a 9 ? where is the GAME part ?! Go watch a movie ... pause it , then play a racing game , once you finish lap 1 , continue watching the movie - mafia 2 .

Hang on, you believe the game desrves 70% based on an open ending after playing one of the tightest and well written story's in a game?

imho it's not that a great story, it's just presented very good, but sadly it lacks vital gameplay elements to entertain you after that "presentation"

Cause he's a toolbag like the other retards who want this to be Mafia of Bore or Mafia Theft Auto.
Seen so much whining that the game isn't "up to date with recent games" and other shit like that and all I have to say to that is: fuck off.

I've just been browsing the 2k Mafia forums. Fuck me, the people on there winging because there is nothing to do other than the main missions and how the game isn't as good as mafia because the whole story seems rushed.
The thing with this is they are comparing it to a game in which there is also nothing else to do when playing story other than steal cars for Lucas, and a game that has the main character getting in with the Mafia by racing in a sports event.
Fuck me, if your gonna berate a game for one thing don't hold it up against a game guilty of exactly the same thing.

Funny how even the stealth mission in Mafia 2 has more stealth than the entire Splinter Derp: Conviction.

I don't get why people are praising the story so high.
I mean, come on, it's been done about a hundred times.
Granted, it's done good and entertaining but it's nothing spectacular.
And if you do think about it for a minute Diforce is quite right. Most of the game is spent driving from A to B, watch cutscene, drive some more. Rinse and repeat.
I don't remember it being as bad in Mafia :/
I liked the game but this is definitely not going on my to buy list, while the first one without a doubt is. (but maybe I should replay it first )

Yeah I've played it for a while and not that impressed either. It's got great productions values, voice actors, the world around you is alive and entertaining. But it seems like you do nothing.

I agree with you but i also agree with the people your disagreeing with.
Yes basicly Mafia 2 has the same flaws Mafia had.
You spend half your time driving from A to B and there is nothing todo in the game besides the main story line.
But i stil think Mafia is a better then Mafia 2. Why?
The first Mafia has a great excuse for its flaws. Its 8 freaking years old.
8 years ago Mafia was awesome despite its flaws.
But we are now 8 further other games have come and they changed our demands.
One would think 2K would take Mafia and improve the flaws it had and would maybe look at other similar games and take the things they liked.
But no they didnt. Basicly Mafia 2 is Mafia with upgraded grafix minus melee weapons and free roam.
Damn the world of Mafia 2 is even smaller then of the original Mafia (just try to get to the areas north, west and east. There are no roads going there thos areas are just filler)
hell they even copied some bits from the story line.
Spoiler: | In the first Mafia you had to kill Salieris consiglieri (forgot his name) you spared him because you liked him and let him get away. And in Mafia 2 you have to kill another consiglieri and you let him get away because you liked him. |
@jewbagel
Please explain what you mean with alive and entertaining.
Yes there are lots of people walking around and cars but there is nothing happening unles i influence/start it.
The cops dont stop other cars or arrest other people (unles i influence it).
No random accidents, someone robbing a store (that isnt me). There are no random events. Unless i do something its a boring perfect world.

What a waste of the most impressive sandbox city ever. I feel like I've seen maybe 20% of the city after completion. Oh the potential for content in this game...
And now I crave a new Hidden & Dangerous after playing the first Chapter.

FreeRide Extreme was fun in the first game, cool stuff to do after having finished the game.
Why didn't they keep that ? They have the production power to do it ... tsk tsk

You're thinking of "The Betrayal of Jimmy", and even that has a slot for Steam as JB proved.
NO LINKS TO ILLEGAL STUFF IN SIGS - DLC IS ILLEGAL TOO

Just finished it and im kinda split with the game.
I loved the story. Altough WAY to much going back and forth.
Plus no free roam at all. Give me an option to do what i want between the mission and this game could have been even better.

The cops in this are hilarious.. tap a car with your bumper and they're all over you within seconds for a hit and run. Get into a gunfight in the street during a mission, complete with exploding cars and bullets flying everywhere, and no cops in sight. I will complete the game but the driving is very tedious considering how bad the cars handle (and they should.. big fat cars from the '40s).

Any one of yall experienced this?, at chapter seven or something..
when you get out of the joint, and joe & eddie take you too the club.
Anyway while drivin he tells you he's about to hurl and tells you to stop, when you do he actually does
Ignored this the first time as I dint expect such thing.
Same kinda thing on the way back while they singing this crazy song, if you exit the car you get some comment.
And oh yeah try bumping some random guy driving against a police car, you'd be amused.
