Can Stardock survive this?
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

Survive what? They stayed up all night releasing a patch and then a hotfix. I don't give a flying fuck about a bill of rights, the game is fun and they're a hellofalot faster at patching than the last 20 game companies I've seen.
Ever play a paradox game? A jowood game?
This is blindingly fast and professional compared to those releases. And the price you pay for getting a game that isn't just a fucking clone of another game.

Of course they will. What's sad is that people are bitching about a company that actually supports their games while giving in to cash-whore companies that don't give a shit about the community. I know the game is buggy but its nothing a few patches can't fix.
Oh and the Gamer's bill of rights isn't down

I've tried Vanilla, 1.01, and 1.05
Does anyone else have this problem?
When i open multiple menu's, the text from the bottom menu overlaps the top menu.
For instance, when in game if i hit escape it brings up the main menu, if i then click save, the text from the main menu is overlapping the save screen.....
Anyone know a fix? i check thier forums, what a clusterfuck....

Right, and the dev guy posted that link when people asked for their money back, and then refunded those who asked (I am paraphrasing someone else's post on the subject).

It seems SKIDROW borked a bit 1.05 installation.
If you start campaign after 1.05 skidrow update, new tutorial screen will not have pictures, just text. There may be other issues.
Here is what is actually a problem.
All updates for Gfx folder got "misplaced" to data\Gfx folder (which didn't existed before).
Because of this, some updated files never got active.
It's more obvious if you look that all files in data\Gfx folder have today's data, and none in Gfx do. Plus, some of the file names from data\Gfx folder, as well as folder structure, overlap with Gfx.
To fix this mess, move whole "Elemental War of Magic\data\Gfx" folder to proper "Elemental War of Magic\Gfx" folder.

Btw, I think skidrow version is actualy hotfixed 1.05
From 1.05.16 changelog:
Quote: | We put up v1.05.016 in the early hours of the morning.
Fixes:
- We finally found and killed a battle engine related crash that we think was the cause of virtually all end of turn related crashes.
- Archers and units with special abilities can perform actions as long as they have action points available. This will likely be altered in a future update but there is the issue of some equipment lowering the combat speed of units enough to where they wouldn't be able to use their weapon.
- We increased the default combat speed from 1 to 2. This has had a positive impact on tactical battles.
- Fixed a couple of misleading tooltips.
- We have temporarily disabled the empire faction portion of the Faction creation mod tool since it was creating Imperial factions with invalid tech trees. |
^Look that last thing. I was unable to create new empire faction (with workshop) with skidrow 1.05, so i guess it's hotfixed version they released.
Probably other stuff needs to be checked to just to be 100%, but it's good indication anyway.

I too think that 1.05 Skinrowies release has hotfix implemented. Just started new campaign and the units have default combat speed at 2.
Plus the date on the files on the patch are from today and not yesterday night.

Agreed. BUT I still think they should have waited a month or two before releasing. Yes yes I know about civ5, but in the end, I think releasing a more finished product is the way to go, always.
Paradox is so frigging horrible these days, so so disappointing. The only good thing about paradox is the modding community, which again is sUPERB!

Yes lets not buy stardock or paradox games anymore, lets only support polished games by blizzard and ea!
Theres a lot of potential and many ways for both the community and the developer to realise that potential in Elemental, as it's been built up from the very beginning to outlast stardock, if they should close shop.
Meaning you can essentially mod anything in the game, everything can be replaced and remade.
Same can't be said of the games EA, 2k et al are putting out.
Stardock have also comitted to supporting this game for the next 2 years with loads of updates and free content, but also a pair of expansions like with Galactic Civilizations II.
Compared to Galciv II though, elemental is far more moddable and easier to mod.

Epsilon, I'm not buying the game basing on it's potential. I'm buying game that must be playable and fun from the start. The game is fun and all, but the lack of polish is atrocious. The performance bug so many people are experiencing (me too) is ridiculous - the game basically doesn't use GPU power. For me, it's silly and pathetic that such a bug goes into gold version of the game. There are dozens of other little things that are annoying form the technical standpoint, not to mention some questionable gameplay mechanics. I actually regret pre-ordering it, got carried by the hype, shame on me. This game should not have been released in this state and that'a a fact. In a month or two it will possibly be a brilliant game.

“please stay away from our games in the future. I consider it ready for release and if others disagree, don’t buy our games.”
i was gonna wait a year before i bought it, guess i'll just pirate it then since he/they no longer cares or even wants my money.

Quote: | The site, www.gamersbillofrights.org was set up and is run by Stardock. We stand by it. It is, with some irony, our commitment to no DRM on our DVD release that ultimately caused the rough pre-release experience of Elemental. Several retailers broke the street date and we felt we needed to release our gold version to our customers who had pre-ordered from us as well as to our beta community that helped make the game the outstanding strategy game that it is.
However, it also became clear that the pre-day 0 version of the game was problematic as outlined in the PC Gamer UK article. The official day 0 version of the game, what is available right now, should address most, if not all the issues that have been described. That said, as is our long-standing policy, we will continue to release updates and improvements Elemental just as we do for the other titles we develop.
I anticipate us putting out regular updates for Elemental for months or years to come based on player feedback, suggestions, and yes, bug reports.
I hope this offers some explanation as to the events that have come up. I sincerely apologize and feel terrible for the effect my forum posting on Qt3 may have had not just on our fans but also my team that has worked incredibly hard over the past 3 years to produce what we hope, is a game that you will enjoy for years to come. |

That's not what I am saying, but PI has become like everyone else, you don't get that, they really care attitude anymore because they release half assed products. And therefor I will no longer buy their games without extensive research and waiting up to a year to let them fix the game. PI still has some unique games coming out, and are making games that I am particular interest in, but I'm not going to blindly throw them money anymore, like I could do before. And that IS disappointing. And the only way to say, stop no, we don't accept this no more even to we love you PI, vote with yer money.

They delete and ban anyone that criticizes this perfect game, citing the desire to keep the "signal to noise ratio clean" for people looking for gameplay information (huh?), while allowing pointless "I love you Brad, fuck me!" posts to stay.
The moment you go to a third-party forum, the situation changes. Hordes of "I am dissapoint" threads with a token 5 or 10 people supporting the POTENTIAL of the game.
Hey, I wanted to love this game. Have been looking forward to it forever. This is what I wanted: See that FIRST image, but I didn't get that. I got 6 guys, alone, wandering around and conquering cities of thousands without breaking a sweat. Where are my huge armies? Dominions 3 is better than this so far.
Hope there are some really good changes coming. Epsilon said it was his GoTY I believe, and I trust his opinion. I just can't agree with him today, maybe in a month or so I'll be a believer.

So is anyone having problems with Skidrow's release of the 1.05 hotfix? I can't start a new game or a new campaign, it just hangs at the loading screen showing me the background picture.

...in about a year we can all have a blast with all the new 4x games I just installed GalCiv2 again with a mod that fixes some issues with the latest patch, gonna be a long night |
While I found Star Rule to be an interesting featurelist you don't see me praising it.
