In a twist of irony, they might deserve it - but Silent Hunter 4 is scheduled at the end of this year I believe

im LOVING it..
warning.. this game does have alot of non action parts.. HOWEVER.. it adds to the whole tension/when u do get action it means heaps..
so far every time i have gone out to sea i could write a big story about all this shit that happened.. u will just be like "omg !@$%" when it all happens....
i was off the english coast.. it was REALLY foggy... i saw these 2 lights in the distance.. they were fast patrol boats with spotlights searching in the fog... they spot me.. oh shit!.. torpedos on the water.. oh shit!.. ALARM ALARM...
so i crash dive.. go as deep as i can... turn south as fast as i can.... torpedos miss.. i have a destroyer above me...
he goes past me.. then i hear splashes in the water.. oh fuck.. depth charges coming my way.. we brace.. im standing in the control bit..
u see pipes breaking.. water gushing in.. the people inside shitting there pants.. u send damage partys around the place.. the boat is damaged.. its sinking!!!
30meters...... 50meters... 100 meters... 120 meters... u can hear the boat creaking... more pipes are breaking.. oh fuck.. is this the end ??
no!.. the damage team gets the repairs needed finished and we blow and do a emergency surface ... we surface only to be greated by 1 destroyer 2 patrol boats and 1 corvette...

I preorder Silent Hunter III from Direct2Drive...
In the faq of D2D, it says:
"How many times can I install the game I bought?
As many times as you like."
And in a sticky post on official forum, the community moderator says:
"The limited number of installs is only from digitally distributed version of Silent Hunter III - not the DVD install.
i.e. if you download Silent Hunter III from a retailer, you'll be able to install it five times. If you buy the DVD you can install it as many times as you want. "
This is confusing! D2D sell unlimited download products and this game can only be downloaded 5 times. And this info doesn't appears in the specs of Silent Hunter III pre-order page of D2D... This is kinda like false publicity. I want clear info on this case... If actually this game can just be installed 5 times, i want to be refunded from D2D and i'll buy it in stores.
In the Terms of Sale from D2D:
"We will do anything we possibly can to resolve the problem. However, if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it provided that:
a)You have not activated your purchase through Trymedia Activemark or received a product key in email. The refund period has not yet expired. b)The refund request period is 48 hours from the time of purchase. In some instances, it may be longer. Customer Support will inform you if your refund period has expired. This is not a guarantee of a refund. Your request will be considered. "
My copy of Silent Hunter III isn't activated yet since the game isn't out and it does less than 48 hours...
DAMN ... I wish i'll have an answer soon... This f*cking sucks
Anyway... I reserved it at EB Games... In the worst case, i'll have 2 copy... Gonna sell one...

I think it might be 5 times during certain amount of days. Like no more then 5 times in 120 day period or something. D2D will most likely renew your 5 installs on request. If they dont, you get a chance to sue them.

You can get your activation key / download the game 5 times..
That's how TryMedia is..
And it's been like that as long as I remember..
And most of the time your game wont work when you use that version...
Patch wont work etc..
Game is buggy...
It's simply 'nough fucked up when using TryMedia..

1st off. Silent Hunter 2 only supported 800X600. This was so horrible that the MOD community converted everything to 1024x768 and made their own patch.
1024x768 isnt too bad with new games. At least on a 21in Trinitron. Look at Doom3 and HL2, you are hard pressed to tell what res they are in sometimes. Turn on some FSAA and it will look great.
Those of you with TFT, i think you jumped the CRT boat too soon. Sure its thin, but price vs quality CRT will give you twice the size and quality for your money.
From the people that ive talked to that own this game, they claim its SF3. So thats why we havent seen it released. I guess Ill have to buy before try. Instead of the other way around. I already bought 2 games this week, so It will have to wait until next week.

It was posted in the UBI forums, and it's on SF website that SF-Active or whatever it's called locks the number of installs per-activation key by the request of the publisher; So if they say 5 installs per key...only 5. If it uses a different type of protection then it doesn't matter does it?

There is a really neat thing you can do - hold down shift and press page up - now watch as it's FPS friendly bloom/anti-aliasing effect kicks in. It's really sweet! Makes it look even more realistic if you get the right setting. You can do all this in realtime as easily as pressing a key and turn it down with page down key instead.
And - press shift and F2 and you can walk around the u-boat in free camera mode, not be restricted to a single pivoting point
The only thing that is pissing me off is that I can't get my speakers setup correctly with the game - but that's because I'm inept
Loving it so far, I'm not going to attempt manual targetting until I've gotten some sleep and am fresh.
BTW get this setup on your gramaphone: wonderful...

Jesus, Silent Hunter 3 DVD release *DOES NOT* use SF-ProActive protection it uses SF 3 Professional protection, and you can install it as many times as you want, as for the downloadable versions off d2d, my careface is low.

Hi there,
We appreciate you taking the time to provide this information. In regards to
your questions about the TriMark activation.
Games that are activated using Trymedia's ActiveMark come with a limited
amount of licenses. As set out in the agreement with the game developers. We
have no control over this.
What does my license for the game grant me?
While you can download a game as many times as you want, you are only granted
a certain amount licenses to the game. These licenses are granted in
succession, one after the other and you cannot hold the licenses at the same
time. The license is valid for one use, on one computer and cannot be shared
on another computer. Sharing the license will deactivate it. If you use both
licenses due to format or sharing, your ability to use the game will end.
In what circumstances can my license be invalidated?
Your license can be invalidated in several ways. For each game, you can
receive two licenses in succession. Once these licenses are used, your ability
to use the game will end. A license can be invalidated by:
Formatting your hard drive or reinstalling Windows
The use of routers, firewalls, ad blockers, pop-up stoppers that block the
Trymedia activation process
How many times can I download the game?
You can download a game as many times as you want, but only one license will
be granted and validated at one time on one computer.
In regards to your refund. We're showing that you have downloaded and
activated the game Ghost Recon. Direct2Drive games that have been activated
cannot be refunded. Unlike retail stores, you have nothing to return to
Direct2Drive such as a cdrom. Once a license has been used, it cannot be
returned. Since this is a bundled package there is nothing that we can do.
Your Silent Hunter download will be available soon!
*******************
F*ckers! I didn't even play at Ghost Recon... I just installed it + activated it to see how it works... I didn't even PAY for Ghost Recon... but i want to be refunded for the game i pay and didn't activated yet...
F*ck D2D... i'll never do business with them!

I'm sorry but what do you expect? Ghost Recon is only 'free' because you paid for SHIII. I know it sucks but you should have read up on it first. Oh well - at least you'll be enjoying the game soon enough.

The fact is they didn't clearly speak about the license on their website... And that's just plain stupid that you can't install a game you legaly pay for more than 2 times if you format... I format like 2-3 times a year...
I guess many ppl won't buy on their site if they know about this... so was I...
That's pure scam...

Aye, I was considering this option as well until I got to thinking about it.
2 licenses? That's fuckin nothing.
Sorry you got fucked over Shiro.
Good thing I held off and opted for just buying a dvdrom instead.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
