Another review (3/5):

http://www.giantbomb.com/mafia-ii/61-20538/reviews/

Something tells me almost everyone was waiting for some kind of a GTA3/4 game and instead they got a true Mafia ("so called" open-world but linear story driven) game.

If the story is as good as Mafia's I'm cool.
But I can understand how people expected shit to do in an open world game besides the main story.
They build this complete city and then fill it with... nothing.
You don't need GTA's shoot 100 pigeons or whatever. But a couple a things wouldn't have been too much to ask, right?
Like maybe backroom gambling or how about illegal hot rod races.
Just some little stuff like that that give people stuff to do outside of the story.
Stuff that gives you a reason to explore the city.

crack and APEX PhysX

I used several cracks, but the game will jump out to desktop when I'm in Chapter 2 with APEX Physx Medium and High, when I turn off the APEX Phyx, everything is fine, any solution?

I have a feeling alot of people here.. /internet/ review sites have never played Mafia.. and are expecting something like GTA...

Every single "bitch" about the game could be put on the orig Mafia game aswell.

Mafia was never a GTA style game.... and now mafia 2 its getting flak because its not either ??

The one thing I gather from all the reviews is indeed that noone sees the point in having an open world. It's only there because .. well because :/

I don't get why so many people complain about GTA4's side missions - you didn't HAVE to do any of it you know Smile

Sorry Neon25 I had work this morning but I'll help now.

Steam://install/50130 has to be run from the browser-address bar with the game authenticated, I think you were using Steam seeing that screen with the deluxe content.

It'll say it downloads and then it'll disappear, you will then have the NCF files in the Steamapps folder.

To improve things a bit Steam://Validate/50130 might be used as well to properly validate each archive but this should have been done during install anyhow.

Open Installscript.vdf and make it look like this to skip the redist crap (Optional.)

 Spoiler:

Start Mafia2.exe directly and the game should launch, if it does not crate a steam_appid.txt file and in it just have the number 50130 (Where Mafia2.exe is, not the launcher.)

Do not use a modified Steam.dll file or Steam_api.dll and it should launch, one I've tinkered a bit I think I can get a modified API and the rest of the DLC but this remains to be seen for now, however it should not be a problem from my viewpoint of it.

I can't provide any files as it apparently caused problems or at least I can't post them like this but if the above doesn't work I'll PM you the correct and valid Steam NCF's and the modified GUI.sds file and main exe, you should already have them with the above however.

Maybe people just expected some kind of evolution in gameplay?
There are 8 years between the two games after all so it's not that far fetched to expect something more than just Mafia with newer graphics and a new story.
Again, haven't played it yet and snce I really like Mafia I don't think I'm gonna have a big problem with it.

It works!

Though it seems the Made Man DLC is not authenticated or something, I have this error:

 Spoiler:

But still it only gives me clothes and 2 cars, so I can live without that till 27th. But the game works! It seems the steam_appid.txt file fixed it. Thanks a lot!

No problems, and yeah it seems to be a authentication error until the 27th aside from using a modified Steam_Api.dll file. Smile

That gave me a nice picture in my head.
Though I see the scene riding against the DRM dragon that is controlled by the evil pulbisher sorcerer Very Happy

the P2P releases I see more as a bunch of wannabe heroes, armed with sticks and stones and clad in rags that get smashed by the dragon.

... somebody should paint that.

Any info about the scene? It's weird they simply don't give a shit (maybe too busy with playing/testing?), they should've said something like "we'll wait until release"... Meh, I hope we all can play by tonight.

A scene group doesn't crack these for the general public. It's a pride thing, a big fuck you or 'look what I can do' to the other scene groups.

For those who haven't played yet : It's a great game , if you loved Mafia , you will love this aswell.
YES the world is underused and there isnt much except exploring to do , but still , a great game.
DLC will probably unlock the rest of the map (gray street areas on the sides) and hopefully there is a countryside area like the first one.

Missions were i'd say more varied in the first game since you got to play on a boat , airport , etc. Here , there arent such things , since most of the story is contained withing the city.
V3 crack sofar was the best

Thanks for the report. Which one is it you call V3?

I just gave Mafia.II.Crackfix-ZHONGGUO a try, it does work but there's the message 'Online authentification failed, game experience will be affected'. Don't know what I did wrong.
