Another thread, this time I'll be copying/translating my thread from Tweakers.net
For now, the original thread can be found here (Dutch) or here (Google Translation).
The thread's been dorment for a while, but the P55A and 870A Fuzion boards from MSI are finally available, and there's a new Hydra driver (1.6). Initial reports show some ridiculous improvements.
That's also why I'm creating this thread, because from the first review I've read it seems that MSI's P55A is up there with x58 boards on a lot of factors, and the Hydra chip works. Here's an example. I'm waiting to see an extensive review which takes these cards and compares Hydra with SLI and CFX, but it finally looks promising.
Just to give you a few percentages from the review above, 480+5870 compared to a stock 480 (min/avg/max):
- Unigine 2.1, 0xAA @ 1920x1200: 60%/180%/413%
- Unigine 2.1, 8xAA @ 1920x1200: 95%/97%/166%
- Crysis, 8xMSAA @ 1920x1200: 133%/61%/87%
Clearly not perfect, but that's some mighty fine scaling, even in a game like Crysis. Given that the 5870 performs between 5-10% less in Crysis than the 480, that means their scaling is quite fine.

It's old games where they have troubles apparently. I really want to see a longer review now, because this means a combination like a 5870 + GTX 460 brings the best of both worlds together, potentially beating the 5970 at a lower cost

Impressive (http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/msi_p55a_fuzion_review/7). Last time I checked out info on Lucid it was severely struggling with breaking bugs, poor performance and beta drivers that crashed etc.

Yep, but I already heard that 1.5 made a huge difference, and by the looks of it 1.6 works pretty darn well. Need more reviews though!

Hydra vs SLI and Crossfire benchmark : Tom's Hardware
Looks really impressive for tests where it works. I hope they'll improve their drivers and provide similar performance as SLI and Crossfire.

considering new games are shit, that could be a problem
if srsly 180 for cheapest mobo (where u can get cf/sli mobo) for under 100 that supports hydra+460+5870 vs 5970 or 480= not worth it even if it beats by some small margin
for enthusiastic/experimenting purposes sure why not |
Or if your timechange who somehow has an endless supply of money that he can afford to cut his case up with wire cutters lol
