From what I've seen it has a similarity to a great classic - Masters of Magic. And it is made by the same people who gave us GalCiv series so they certainly have experience making 4x strategy games. We'll see what comes out of it.

I want to test drive this bad boy. Although it's a lot less awesome sounding than it was a few months ago ... no more 10,000+ unit battles, no more Nation Designer, no more "Spore-like" network to share creations. They definitely scaled it back.

Still, though, I want to see for myself. Might be awesome. Might be overhyped trash.

While it may be slightly incomplete at release, it will be awesome. This is Stardock's labour of love, and they'll support it to a huge extent for years to come. You can't go wrong buying this, even if the game initially feel a tad bare-bones compared to what was promised.

yeah 14% but I never get good speeds through Impulse. Funny though I was talking to a Stardock person in IRC

"Oh we have a server in Aus"

Sure you do that's why when I block connections to the US address NOTHING in impulse will download.

Impulse is needed (Account data and such.) plus "Reactor" (A serial-key is used for activation.) but it's usually bypassed rather quick, game is about 1.3 GB.

A small homage to the greatest rpg developer of all time Smile
Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty.
It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

While Stardock games themselves are barely protected as such, usually update system is strictly centralized. Without "leaks" from legal users it's pretty impossible to get patches for pirated versions.

Heh... I don't even remember if all patches for GalCiv2, ever appeared outside legal users.

Tbh, that's where i draw the line. If a game is good enough in order to use patches to play it, then buying it is mandatory, specially when it's almost drm free and made by stardock.

I for one won't make them available as I'm a hypocrite in this area, stardock is one of the few companies that make games for the particular niche that I enjoy, and good games at that. So I'm not about to make the patches and community stuff available.

The game is a bit rough and unoptimized right now, regretfully. When hovering over 3D objects (towns, etc) performance plummets. Knowing Stardock, it'll all be polished.

Yeah I noticed that performance tends to take a hit on the larger maps and if things get a bit cluttered, also I checked the patch and it doesn't touch any game files despite the message about how much it fixes, instead it's some xml update to the information in Impulse and the game is then re-validated and then the update notification disappears, might be that it updated the version number (Either via Impulse XML or the registry info.) if it was incorrect previously but no files got updated.

Various images. (Edited incase it just looked like a spoiler message.)

I watched some videos of it, yes, the developer walkthroughs too, but I just can't figure out what would keep me from falling asleep while playing this. Maybe it's just not my kind of game but I'm so bored atm that I would try anything. Some explanation would be appreciated Razz

I'm in the same boat here. I never played Master of Magic, which someone compared it to, or GalCiv 2 either. I like old school turn-based strategy games though ,so if anyone can write up a mini-review and tell us a bit more, I'd love to see it. I'm having a hard time finding out a lot about the game and I love supporting quality developers, but I just don't really get what this game is all about. If anyone has a good external link with more info, that would be great too.

Wink

Might be best to wait a week or two before buying so they can iron out the bugs. Mind you, this will be a GOTY.

Heck, I even prefer games like MoM, MoO and Civ to the majority of today's crap.

Too bad I'm short of money or else this would be an instant buy for me.

His math is wrong and the review is based on the beta build. There is an entire thread about this review on the Elemental forums.

It's not a review either, more like his thoughts on the beta build. As can also be seen in the thread on the official forums.
