I wouldn't be surprised. If a new Dungeon Keeper will be made, it will be either a MMORPG or a FPS.

From Gamescom Announcement:
-3 types of crafters (Blacksmith/jeweler/mystic)
-Recipes drop in the world
-Artisans can learn new recipes as they level
-Certain recipes will require your artisan to be a certain level
-Items being crafted take awhile to craft so you can go quest and return to get the item(?)
-Later in the game, the Artisan, you may of course choose to specialize. For example, on axes.
-Salvaging: From unneeded items can produce materials for crafting
-Materials are not only good for crafting but also for leveling your artisan
-Mule system confirmed - Possibilities of a mailing system and/or shared stash.
-A new mini map has surfaced in the HUD. Displays NPCs, traders and others.
-There will be no town-portal system in Diablo 3
-No easy escape TPs. They want some kind of "teleport to join your friends" but not one that you can go back and forth through.
-No console version (they won't announce any "plans" for a console version until they announce a console version....)
-Inventory changes: Armor, daggers, shields will take the same amount of space
-No unidentified items
-Socket amount will depend on item lvl again
-Set Items, there will be again. These are currently in the design process. Whether one can even crafting set items is not yet clear !
-Items of different item classes can be the best in slot. Meaning weapons will be best as uniques, Armors will be best as rare and boots will be best as crafts
-Everything will cost Gold!

Sounds sweet, will be an epic timesink for singleplayer if you need all three crafts (3 separate characters). Good thing gold will be more useful too, I always thought gambling for items was a bit lame.
Edit: Oh right, watched the video now and the crafters are NPC's, you don't choose a career for your char.

The video has a scroll of identify, so either they recently scrapped the identification system (and it's a leftover) or it's still in.

Blizzcon 2010 will be on 22-23 october this year and i presume it will be mostly Diablo III centered seeing SC2 is out and Cata will be released probably like a few weeks after blizzcon. It only leaves 2 games to really talk about. Diablo III and the secret MMO which they might reveal.
Oh yeah and the no console version of D3 is SUPER AWESOME news indeed. Blizzard is PC only company and DAMN their games are all top notch. Might be the case they dont have to do those stupid console versions and optimize those and make the game dumb enough for the console derpa derps to understand it.

I disagree and I use myself as a template when I say so. When I'm hooked on an MMO I don't play anything else for several months. I was hooked on WoW for about a year and in that timespan I didn't have much time for other games until I stopped playing WoW.
Mechanisms that works for me should also work on others so in that regard I think it's a good analysis.

Sure, that's called fair competition. No? As long as blizzard isn't getting government funds or incentives, let the market deal with it. Allow the profit incentive to work itself out by forcing other companies to evolve or die. It's not a problem.

I saw people whining that some stats are randomized on crafted items as i that's a bad thing.
Having everything be crafted exactly the same would be complete shite in a game like this.

I have to agree. Well, im not one of them, but many of my friends are. Whenever there is a new game they don't seem to be interested at all. Not even enough to find out what kind of game it is.

I remember when LoD came out, must have been 13 or 14 that summer.. got really white (am normally tan) and it hurt my eyes to go outside lmao. Diablo 2 + LoD gave me like 2 years of consistent gameplay. Madness.. literally doing the same thing every time, trying to MF good items, creating characters to try new builds, getting them to level 70+ in a day, dunno how it held my interest so long. I wonder if the the third game will have such a hold on me.

I have the exact same thing planned, stock up on frozen pizza and junkfood, tell all relatives and my gf that I am on a vacation with unknown return date, then shut off all phones and disappear to Sanctuary.
I have the advantage over you that I live alone in my flat, so if I do this as planned, really noone will know where I am.
Also, if all goes well I will have my BS degree this march, which will free up my timetable for a LOT Diablo. Work/Master degree can wait a couple of months, got enough money saved up to support myself a couple of months without any work
Just seeing the butter smooth animation of the characters from the vids makes me feel tingly.
