First NFS was not an arcade game, so the arcade shit (like NFS2, HP2, U, U2, MW, C, UC, HP) are the ones out of the ordinary.
I don't consider NFS3HP and NFS4HS to be arcadey, because while you can make them drive like that, if you turn off the assists, they are still good games to drive, and anyone who has opened a car and its properties in a VIV editor would know they are not arcade racers anyway.

Not if "you" are the first child, and both "your" parents are white. Clearly something "happened". But if "your" mom's a whore sleeping with everyone, then I guess anything's possible.

Hahaha loving the analogies
But yeah, @ Kamikaze and other Shift haters: ever tried giving full throttle while releasing the clutch in a real car?
Doesn't even have to be a high powered one really, works with most cars. Not good for your tyres though
My problem is just that in games like SS, Blur and by the looks of it this one as well the cars handle like refrigerators on ice.

Very true. The first NFS was a true gem, the very best simulator at the time, based on the "road&track" car stats, with with videos, prices, photos, and specs of all cars included. And great music to boot. HP 1 was very good too, and Porche unleashed was a great simulator, too. Some point after that they changed to focus on GFx only and the car phys and interior cockpit got wasted, for that true console retard feeling.

I desperately need a good racing game. One that will keep me playing it on and on. Haven't found one since NFS4, GT1, GT2. I really really hope this NFS delivers.
Shift had major issues with input lag. I'm glad they're focusing on that. Hope it's moddable too.
Asus, B550, 3700X, 3060, 32GB.

You honestly have hopes for otherwise? You will not see a good NFS until Shift 2.

I wish they used this graphic quality and made a forza or gt clone. Instead i'm sure it will be a mindless piece of crap that i'm gonna iso test and delete in half an hour.

Shift already looks better than both this and Forza. GT is great, though.

I tweaked Shift, patched it, got better input response. Uninstalled after 2 hours. It just wasn't particularly fun. Looked good, yes, but something about it didn't feel "right". Installed GRiD instead and have been playing that since. I hope the handling is more like Most Wanted than Shift in Hot Pursuit.

From the Shift thread:
Frant wrote: | I get the same input lag. I basically have to learn how to preemptively steer before the corner comes, then it takes a certain amount of time before anything actually happens. Makes it unplayable.
ps. I use the keyboard, not a steering wheel (I sold my steering wheel ~2 years ago, it was too bulky). |
I can see why you wouldn't like it.

True, but that's the only thing in which it's better. I never tried any of the mods, but straight from the box the game suffered from a horrible career, and other developer choices that i just don't like (the way the xp works comes in mind). Besides i like a game to be hard. I like to start with a piece of shit car, loose races, and slowly, very slowly start to climb the ladder. I like to be forced to repair and not have money to do it fully sometimes, etc, etc.
In Shift i was driving a full boosted porsche carrera after 10 races.
P.S: I hate the fuckin rewind!!

There are plenty of mods for harder AI, and also there is a Pro Career mod that takes some of the issues of the career away.
@Frant Well, sorry, but how can you test the seriousness of the physics engine with a keyboard? Shift has the physics engine of a sim, even if it is not enabled by default in vanilla. Grid is fun, and I liked that one a lot in its time, but really no competition. Indeed, trying to play both Dirt 2 and Grid recently, they felt horribly arcade and crap. I'm not saying they can't be fun, just different kind of "fun"?
I sincerely hope F1 is not as arcade as Grid, though.

@Leo
As for F1, probably it won't reach the total level of simulation achieved with all the F1 mods from the rFactor community (CTDP, FSONE etc.) but I can say for sure that F1 2010 won't be as arcade as GRiD or DiRT 2.

Games like GRID have relatively realistic driving models in that you need to brake to take corners, you can experience under-/oversteer, and so on. They are not entirely realistic though, taking GRID as an example it's often way too easy to induce under-/oversteer, but also too easy to control it when it happens. In GRID all you have to do is touch your handbrake to induce the oversteering, give it full throttle and counter-steer almost fully. That is why you find it more fun probably, it's just easier.
Shift is definitely more serious, because giving full throttle to recover from oversteer will just induce more oversteer, as it should.
Don't get me wrong, I love(d) GRID, but Shift is definitely the game with the better driving model. I definitely prefer GRID over arcade racers like most NFS games or Split/Second or Blur :E
@ Leo: one can hope right? I mean, this game might not be a fridges-on-ice racer, DNF+HL3 might come out in 2011 and George W. Bush might grow a brain? Right?

@pwerelds Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
@ixigia Well, I really hope so. And lets hope it sells. Otherwise, I'm afraid we'll be seeing some stock racing in Grid 2, followed swiftly by Nascar 2012... And in Europe, like they put Race Driver: Grid and Colin McRae: Dirt, they will call it Billy Ray Redneck: Nascar 2012.

I don't like real sims. I don't like arcade racers either. I like something in the middle that feels great physically without being รผber-realistic for no other reason than being realistic. Basically the CMR-series, GRiD, NFS series up until MW (porsche unleashed rocks). No need to be a sim-elitist just because you prefer using a wheel, that's quite arrogant.

LOL I haven't used a wheel in couple of years since my G25 broke. Not using a wheel doesn't mean you can't enjoy a good sim like GTR2 GTL, etc. But you really can't with a keyboard.

I'm a true fan of NFS, if it's like Most Wanted , I'll take it, NFS"SHIFT" aka"SH*T"nothing like the typical NFS series, ...as far as racers GT5 will take it all come Nov.
