Does nobody else find it a piss take they already have 5 planned DLC packs BEFORE the game is released? it's like they took stuff out of the game and decided they would give us half up front then the rest later on, dirty bastards.

Five? that's a bit of a understatement, I've shown those Steam client .blob viewer images before but there's ten slots for DLC and eight are "filled".
(As a sidenote Steam://install/50130 seems to be active now for those who own the Steam edition - probably none considering the price increase and that the physical DVD can be decrypted should it leak early as the codes are available - but it'll probably be blocked further back by the authentication servers.)

DLC is a scourge, it really is. Developers pretty much lost the excuse that it is aftermarket content created AFTER the game in order to prolong the life of it ... especially considering the announcement of DLC packs before the retail game has even hit the shelves. It's all ridiculous.

Isn't this what most DLC are about? Pissed? Nope, gonna enjoy pirating each and every one of them.

To be fair most are the type like those pre-order DLC where you get a unique car and set of clothes which isn't really interesting whereas the only story related DLC is that PS3 exclusive one. -> http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/mafia_2/351081#show
(It's on Steam as well along with three other story like DLC's - based on name though so could be wrong.)

EDIT: Without cluttering the thread too much as I've already posted them it's funny how the exclusive preview and exclusive review already have the DLC added.

That's another bullshit thing about DLC fiasco; system/region specific content. If I go out and pay for the, say, the X360 version of Batman ... why should the PS3 have exclusive content specifically for that platform alone? Or if I buy a PC title, why should consoles have additional content not available for us?

EDIT: As Sabin said. Smile

EDIT: Then again this image shows grass..

EDIT: Found my older post about it and the edit including a image showing all entries for Mafia 2 in the Steam ".blob" container or what to call it.

So you're saying taking half of the game away is what DLC is all about? I thought it was content that was added AFTER release, it surely isn't called DLC then if we're just downloading the rest of the game we already bought?

Can see this being the future of gaming, buy half the game for $40 then the other half over 5 DLCs which won't be far off $40 so instead of buying 1 game we're buying 2, smart from them I guess.

Took them so long to make the game and all we have are missions, then after that we can buy the rest of the missions, great.

Even if you bought the game you could always opt to simply download the latest "patches" via sources like TPB or News or such to add in new functionality and features to the game in order to get it the state that it was supposed to be in the first place. Smile

I have to agree that having to buy DLCs just to get a full game experience is ridiculous. But big-name publishers just love to do it, they're corporations, and as long as people blindly throw their money at them and the plan's working, they'll keep doing it. Having these discussions gets kind of meaningless over time.

But for people used to pirating and with unlimited broadband plans, DLCs are just something that makes them wait a bit longer for the full experience, nothing more.

I think the only game so far to have done DLC well (and I'm sure people will disagree with me regardless Very Happy) is Borderlands. Now don't get me wrong; DLC is a scourge and has become the death of the true expansion pack ... but Borderlands has, over the course of a year after release, come with four - relatively sizeable - DLC packs. Obviously not as EPIC as pure expansions, but they've been cheap-ish and added quite a lot to the game.

IMO of course ^_^

Said corporations also frequently delay the PC edition up to half a year or so withhold it entirely and still somehow blame piracy as the main reason for bad sales.
(Most consumers have both console and PC and why buy a game twice if it's the same experience.)

Mock me all you want, but even if someone found the courage to answer this question on every page and even several times on a single page, then the last 20 pages would be people asking the same thing and asking the same answer. You've had over 1800 posts, you know how this forum works, so don't fuck it up. Just read the damn thread. It's on the past few pages.

@Leftos

I honestly think he was taking the piss, mate, since every almost every post for the last ten pages has been nothing BUT PhysX discussion Very Happy

@human_steel

Yes, it supports PhysX, dummy Razz It has major issues with the ApeX/Cloth implementation - it tries to render cloth detail on EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, causing mega performance issues.
