Toolset is all I really care about. I don't think the joystiq article was correct about eliminated the tactical view either though.

will the current toolset will at least work with DA2?
as for the news,it said the DA2 has been confirmed as Dumbed Down. |
Well this is what that article says about it
| Quote: | The tools we're using to make Dragon Age 2 are very, very close to the tools you guys have used to make your mods for DA:O. They're not identical, as we've made a few in-house improvements, but they're almost identical. As such, there isn't a new toolset to release, per se.
While we won't be releasing a toolset update in tandem with Dragon Age 2, we ARE investigating what it would take to update the community toolset to match ours, along with providing DA2 content in the future.
|
So hopefully it will work with the DA2 or they will update it somehow

DA2 = console nerfed nonsense...
| Quote: | | That doesn't mean that Dragon Age has lost its core RPG combat mechanic -- you can still pause the game and assign orders to your characters. But it does mean that Hawke can mow down baddies with just one whirlwhind ability, or that his mage cohort can summon a magic meteor storm with just the press of a button. |
| Quote: | | ...it was revealed that BioWare is working on the game with console in mind (since that's where the biggest sales are), there will be no tactical aerial view for the PC as it would be too expensive to build based on its target audience, and there will be no mod tools. |

Yes, some in Ferelden, but then most of the game is gonna be set in the Free Maches. Still no Tevinter or Orlais though...

Free Marches? Well at least it's not Ferelden... I think I'd go mad if we have spend another game running around Denerim or Orzammar again.
They're probably "saving" Tevinter/Orlais for the third game. Boo.

No.
"Dragon Age 2 thrusts players into the role of Hawke, a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age. Known to be a survivor of the Blight and the Champion of Kirkwall, the legend around Hawke’s rise to power is shrouded in myth and rumor. Featuring an all-new story spanning 10 years, players will help tell that tale by making tough moral choices, gathering the deadliest of allies, amassing fame and fortune, and sealing their place in history. The way you play will write the story of how the world is changed forever."
But since Flemeth is in the trailer and game, he could be connected.

I bet this game gets delayed at least once. No way are they near completion. They showed some alpha-looking shots just recently.
Just a shitty tactic hyping up until imaginary release then pulling out and having another round before actual release - sometime around Christmas 2011.

Who knows, programmers may just tune their engine, while game designers are making levels/quests etc. Don't forget they got their toolset already, so development should be now much faster. But sure you may be right I guess we'll need to wait and see how it turns out. I for one am looking forward for this game. Loved the first and I still have faith in Bioware, even though their track record of DLC quality is rather poor, their games are great and none have disappointed me so far.

Really.. the new trailer... I'm simply speechless.. I got no words to describe my anger about this game and what it's going to be...
What did they dev Awakening for if those are suppose to be the new Dark Spawn.. I just don't get it. Maybe it's better to pretend that there is no Sequel to Dragon Age. It's finished after Awakening because this upcoming piece of button mashing derpshit can't be the succsessor to the game I played for countless hours and was dugging into it's story.

it looks like generic characters and the same bullshit lost love angsty story from that trailer but I hope I'm wrong, the fact that they're turning Action Combat style for Derps version doesn't sound too good, and we all know how much attention consoles get compared to PC

Well, to be fair DA1 wasn't that innovative either. The story was well-told but it still was still full of cliches and generic fantasy stereotypes.

Isn't that what fantasy games are all about?
If you take a look at the core themes there are only a handful for fantasy games.
It always boils down to some dude saving the world.
From what? Differs. Where does the dude come from? Differs as well but most of the time it happens unexpected to him.
Anyway the trailer was... cinematic.
And the fact that the game is pretty much gonna be derpified... well, what are you gonna do, right? The most one can do is not buy the game but I'm not ready to pass that judgement yet without having seen any kind of gameplay footage.

Yea, one would think they'd have given up these kinds of stories by now. Now what about Planescape: Torment? Noone is saving anyone from anything. I personally think that these personal stories have much more potential than the "saving the world from bad guys".

Planescape is a good example of an underappreciated game, imo.
The story was different (which I really liked, and thanks to you mentioning it I'll probably gonna install it again ) yet intriguing but I don't think a deep story like that would work for today's derpified gamers anymore.

Heavy Rain was decent, story had a ton of plot holes but the experience of playing it was the real point of the game. Hopefully better more devs could try that format out, it's interesting.
Games like Planescape couldn't be made these days though. It's definitely the best written and told storyline in a game ever made, but it completely bombed in terms of sales. Bad marketing and awful box art weren't the only reasons either. Even back in '99 it was such a niche game. It's walls of text and conversations that would go over most peoples heads and there's hardly any combat, and most of the combat is optional.
It's just not worth it to these companies make games like that when they appeal to the very minor crowd like us. It's easier and more profitable to make shiny cinematic cliched games with a lot of action to appeal to biggest crowd. It's sad but the fact that Bioware is one of the only successful devs that even half-asses putting a decent story together is the state we're in today. I wish Obsidian would get their act together some time soon.
