Well, his book sounds a bit dodgy. But I am tempted to buy the game. Who else is going to pay for this (or has already pre-ordered)?
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.
Honestly I wanted to like it but seeing it now as it is: It just feels bland and uninteresting. Graphics aren't that good eighter. And I loved their Sins of a Solar Empire. Maybe when the demo is out I'll try it. But even that's a big if.

SoaSE wasn't their game, they only published it. I bought SoaSE but it was a disapointment imo, especially after playing GalCiv2.
I'll definetely be buying this since i really loved GalCiv2, love the art style too, its very rare that you see something that doesnt look like everything else.
"This weekend I have to really get on the AI. It’s still nowhere near where I want it to be for release. Heck, it doesn’t even do the “Your civilization makes me laugh, give us 50 gold or we’ll crush you!” type stuff."
"Scott (Boogie) has been working on the cut scenes like crazy."
It's just me or it seems they should postpone the release? Rushed games = shitty games.
Stardock tends to be rather quick with game support though some titles have required a bit of patching, unsure how their platform/launcher (Impulse was it?) works now but it's probably better as well.
EDIT: A lot has been about continued support, balance improvements and game additions as well of course aside from just fixing bugs and similar.
(Best currency support and very good price levels as well in that regard, EA store gets close however but Gamersgate and Steam is left behind.)
AI not ready yet? Not as if that's something trivial that can be completed in a couple of days. I'm so glad I didn't preorder this.

They havent finished the AI + in the latest videos posted by Epsilon, they didnt even have a death animation in yet. nah, no preorder for me, i'll wait a few months or maybe a year before i buy this. I wasnt too impressed by the gameplay videos either, the little that was shown seemed a bit generic, was that really the best he could come up with to promote the game? :/

The AI being nowhere near where you want it when you're in a public beta stage is something you can't allow to happen. And even if it happens, although I appreciate the honesty a lot, from a person-who-wants-to-make-some-money-out-of-this' perspective, you don't say that publically. I'm wondering how nobody has mentioned that part in the comments.
He didn't say "AI needs a bit of tweaking after your reports", he said "AI is nowhere near where I want it to be".
Too bad really, as locke said, rushed releases are bad.
The beta isn't public and the game is far from being rushed. Brad Wardell has very high standards concerning ai though.
The death animation is in, it's just not activated properly (bug).
Well, thankfuly the game is only 2 weeks away so we will know soon enough how it turned out in the end. I just wish there was a way to buy this game in my country - paying 20$ for shipping CE is out of the question.
This game looks so so good, except for the combat which isn't bad but could have been better. Sucks that I can't afford it anytime soon...and my conscience won't let me pirate Stardock games.
Is there possibility to pre order it not from Impulse shop? I'd like to have boxed edition but shipping cost to UK is $12.54 (£31.33 for game). That's nearly 30% of game price.

If you preorder the game on impulse you will be able to play before release date. Preorders and beta testers should be able to preload the game mid next week with the game being made available on friday.
Retail release is the 24th.

I saw they were going to release it early for preorders but never saw them say WHEN. But, i was thinking to myself, I will preorder if it is released for that weekend. Dunno if I can wait if I can get a chance to play it early over the weekend even though i have a gift card to the place I planned on buying it from.
1 stripe purple belt in JiuJitsu (good grief this takes FOREVER hahah)
You SURE that the game will be released that weekend for preorders? I'm still not seeing where they mentioned a specific time frame. All I can see Frogboy saying is , "A bit early".

Not being a developer on the game myself I cannot guarantee it in any way shape or form, but that is what I was told by a credible source.
There’s been a lot of discussion on these kinds of topics on recent games and I thought I’d give you our perspective on it.
No Copy Protection
Elemental, out of the box, like all of Stardock’s other games, has no copy protection whatsoever. However, you obviously need Internet access to get updates. But then, why should this be necessary?
Because Elemental, unlike our previous games, has really been designed to be a game that people can play for decades, this is something that has concerned us. Because we want to encourage people to have the latest version but at the same time, we are aware that some people are worried that 10 years from now, they won’t be able to get the “better” version.
So here is what we’re going to start doing on our developed titles: We’re going to start making archival DVD versions of the game that can be sent to customers. We already do this with Object Desktop (our most popular non-game product). This archival version would have no copy protection whatsoever. It would just be a DVD you can put into your machine.
So starting in October, what we will do is make archival DVD editions of our games starting with Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate Edition and Elemental. Roughly every year or so, if there have been updates, we’ll create a new archival version of the game that people can have sent to them (it’ll just be a DVD).
LAN Games
There’s been a lot of questions of how someone would play Elemental on their LAN with their friends. Here’s my suggested way to do it with minimum hassle.
#1 You’ll need to install Impulse on the machines that will be playing the game. But that’s all. Just install and go to step 2.
#2 Go to http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com which is the web interface to Impulse. From here, you would download the web package of Elemental. As long as Impulse is installed on the machine, you can install the game.
#3 When you install, type in your serial #. If it’s on a LAN, just use your single DVD key, Impulse::Reactor’s GOO uses smart activation (i.e. it doesn’t have a “activation limit” type system) so you can just install it on the various machines on your LAN.
#4 When your friends come over to play, they will need, once in the game, to logon with their own accounts (so they or someone will have to provide them with a serial # to attach to their account but they can use it at your LAN in game). This is because on day 0, the data from the game is handled by our servers (this way, when we update the game data for balancing players don’t have to update their game which would be a real hassle for LAN players). Eventually we plan to release custom servers so that players can make their own stuff but we won’t have that ready at release.
I really love Stardock, they truly care about their customers and oldschool pc gaming
