Alter Ego

  • Official web page: LINK
  • Publisher: Future Games (tho i'm not sure it'll be future games, most likely the adventure company)
  • Developer: Future Games
  • Genre: Adventure
  • Release date: Q2 2009
  • Story/Description:
    Quote:
    South England, 1894
In the town of Plymouth the body of recently buried Sir William disappears under strange circumstances. This peculiar news would not stir such tremendous public interest if it was not Sir William himself. He was investigated several times during his life and although the police never managed to press charges against him, scary legends about his bloody crimes live on among the town people. There were only a few left who were willing to serve him and were brave enough to stand the look at his lifeless face. And most of them run away in horror after his death and series of murders that followed it. Police are helpless and not able to move forward with the case. The town is thrown into a state of panic and fear.
Young ordinary thief Timothy gets utterly unwittingly involved in these events. His arrival is characteristic enough already - he came as a black passenger on a ship and was brought into the town in handcuffs. But Timothy has completely different plans. He dreams of getting to America where he wants to start a new life. But the mysterious destiny will soon make him – and not only him - realize how winding its paths can be...

  • Playable Characters of the Story:
    Quote:
Timothy Moor – Innocent with a soul of a thief who grew up on the street and never had an easy life. He lies and cheats - yet is he a faithful friend. His pleasant smile hides his dark side and he often abuses trust of the fair sex. He does not hesitate to rob a blind violinist but when the need may be he is able to risk his own life to save a friend or a stranger woman in distress.
He despises police and he always stays where the law cannot reach him. His overgrown self-confidence and a unfortunate concurrence of circumstances throw him in jail and his dreams about his journey to America are quickly turning into dust…

Detective Bristol – An English gentleman, the personification of law and hard-edged justice. Systematically rigorous, at first look calm and principled. He is investigating the circumstances under which Sir Williams’s body disappeared from the cemetery but refuses to believe in the existence of a monster. Yet the everyday news about increasingly brutal murders take the firm ground from under his feet away. Soon he faces big decision - how far is he able to go in abandoning his principles in order to solve the case…?

  • Notes/Features:
    Quote:
    * Alter Ego, a story of two different characters. Although they stand on the opposite sides of law, they have to fight a common enemy.
    * Alter Ego, adventurous detective story with a horror plot
    * Alter Ego, experience of picturesque atmosphere of English town at the end of 19th century
    * Alter Ego, the only alternative for those who fancy and love thrillers
    * Alter Ego, successor of the legendary Black Mirror.
    * Alter Ego, guarantee of restless sleep.
    * Alter Ego, your choice for the future...

Awful game if you ask me the old adventure fart , they wanted to recreated that old London feeling that you see in Holmes but they failed in aspects like presentation and player motivation.

Despite my usual indifference towards the reviews, seems that the game is terribly bad:

Fuck you. I genuinely feel offended by that. And that's a rare sight these days.

Oh well, the game really seems to be shitty. Well, no new adventure for me then :/

The only thing that has appealed to me so far are the well-rendered and detailed scenes. And probably that's the whole main and notable filling of the game because everything that's outside of it is complete emptiness and dullness - from lifeless dialogue sequences through tuneless animations and pitiful cinematics then stepping up to the extreme game's simplicity to finally the boring and sorrowful story. That's the most I can get out of a 3-hour sitting. And I hate to say but it doesn't seem to be getting any better further into it.

This game could've been so much more. Could've been of Black Mirror's magnitude. And the whole idea behind it is a win too. But sadly enough, properly executed. Plus, the whole story is badly structured and a bit rushed. The only thing that keeps making me playing it is the overall atmosphere and ambience, combined with probably the most stunning visuals (mainly the pre-rendered scenes) for an adventure game of this type.
Darn, setting my eyes over at Lost Horizon now which comes out sometime this month. Hope it has more thrills than this...

I wouldn't be surprised if Gamespot completely screwed up the review. It isn't the first time, and it won't be the last one!

In any case, I literally don't give a damn. Wink

Agreed... you'd think that people would finally give up on this "Germany = Nazi" association after more than 65 years, but retards have and always will exist, and they only increase in numbers daily... Rolling Eyes
