But as it is, the game is still the same Starcraft from the last millennium wherein the better player is the one who can build the fastest route to getting top tier units. Not that appealing to be honest.

Far from it, rush is still the number one winning strategy.

Um, top tier units in multiplayer are the ones that are best equipped to disrupt / distract the opponents resource gathering / base building and the sorts while you amass more of them. That's how rushes work last I checked. Don't you even know that?

Zergling/Zealot rush is on the bottom down, not top tier.

What's the best way to use Reapers in campaign?

In my 2nd playthrough (hard difficulty) in volcanic mission, I lost them waaaay to fast, when faced with zerg forces. Only with some serious microing they could stay alive (see zerg, run to the elevation, hold position or get obliterated). Having minimum game speed locked to "fast" on hard difficulty didn't made things any easier. Not to mention that when going solo they have no medic support.

I could see them being useful in that day/night infestation mission to quickly destroy buildings (they are very good with that), but after that not so much.

reapers have long range (like all damn terran units) and are very fast so you can micro them easily. Move away, press S (for stop) and they'll fire at any units in range, move away, press S, rince, repeat.

I haven't played RTS games in a while, is this game any good?

What would you guys say to be the best RTS games in the last year or two?

If we only take last year, Dawn of War 2 (with exp). Smile
Men of War is also great.

On larger scale, King Arthur, Empire Total War and Napoleon Total war are also fantastic.

This is shite. Laughing

reapers are not that great when going against a full army. I built my own marines and marauders and moved them to the center of the map everytime the lava went down. This way my reapers can move around the map to harass while not have to worry about coming back to save the base Very Happy

Not for me it doesn't. Most if not all console ports are to be considered quality as per your description.

Console ports?

simplicity - check
polished experience - sometimes, but not often
balanced gameplay - rarely on both console ports and pc native games

I'd say none of the games mentioned by sabin and leo are RTS's. I do NOT want to get into a discussion about the definition of RTS, however, so the key here is "I'd say..". Very Happy

Like I said I haven't played a RTS in a couple years, and while searching for good titles with good reviews that name popped up a lot, that's the reason why I asked it here Laughing

Well, will try DoW2 and World in Conflict and also Empire Total War.

Make sure to get the DoW2 Chaos Rising release, as it has both the original and expansion, and then take the patch from the thread here by JB. Smile

Well the initial release of CR had a bug that made the last boss very tough - almost impossible to beat Laughing And also there are some sound bug fixes and graphics enhancements which is nice to have.

Since usually your taste in games is superb (unlike with some movies Laughing Cool Face), I bet I will surely love DoW2, anyway, is there any games similar to or even any sequel in the works for World of Goo? That game was absolutely epic.

finished the game.. played it on hard.. the ending could had been better but still makes me think how the expansion will play out

i dont consider dow2 one of the best games.. plz.. good story.. good gameplay but too repetitive.. and too small..(glad for that party because of being so repetitive).. anyways this doesnt mean it isnt a great game.. i end it and liked alot.. but it would requiire more varyed missions and more cinematic stuff to be as good as the sc2 experience..

if you wanna really fully compare dow2 to sc2.. compare playing online.. ahah makes me laugh.. what dow2 have? last man standing and vs matchs?.. i would be all day telling you the possibilitys of sc2 potential.. and wouldnt be enough..

and ofc starcraft franchise well desearvs the hype.. it lived for 12y and was still played by millions..

we already know you dont like so gtfo and let the ones that enjoyed share their experience.. it is too dificult when 2 or 3 wanna be trolls talk 3 or 4 posts per page with the porpose of flamming the game and create discution..

s'tru skytzu, you buy games like starcraft2 for the multiplayer. Otherwise you just play the cracked versions. Bad Company 2 would be an fps equivalent.. Theres a single player campaign in there for sure, but its when you take these sort of games online that you have the most fun playing against or with other players.
