I' not sure if this is a software problem or hardware. What happens is when i play music or watch a movie it freezes for a second and make some static/buzzing sound then it continues as normal for a few minutes before it happens again. Before i could restart my computer to solve it for like 24 hours before it happened again, but now it doesnt seem to go away. Any suggestions?

Hardware, OS, drivers etc. is fairly necessary to make a guess.

PSU problem perhaps? although that seems mostly for PumpActions problems, if it is some HD format it could be the CPU and might be codec related or just depending on player used.
(If it's Youtube or similar Flash 10.1 allows hardware acceleration which can be turned off and might be smoother and more stable on certain hardware, normal settings menu accessed from any flash content, GPU acceleration is only used for movie playback of HD formats like x264.)

Some players like Media Player Classic also allows a semi-3D renderer to allow post-processing effects and overrides like AA, AF and SSAO (NVIDIA) could affect this (Probably won't via profile restrictions driver wise.) and affect playback.

Could also be the soundcard drivers or general audio settings like frequency and bit type or what it's called depending on model.
(Realtek's earlier models have had some issues, SoundMAX has some driver issues as well, Creative had problems early on with Vista and a bit with W7 but that should be OK now once it's configured properly and Asus Xonar can be somewhat sensitive via the GX mode for hardware emulated support.)

EDIT: It's not something as basic as you forgot to update drivers for the motherboard and such is it?
(Intel Storage drivers for SATA/AHCI speed and access and support for the chipset via the Intel Chipset drivers, same for AMD.)

Well, this is really a new problem. I have updated all my drivers. I have a m2n32-sli deluxe motherboard so it must be soundmax soundcard. Info on device manager says nothing but high definition audio device. I havent tried any games so the only places where i get this problem uptil now is Spotify and VLC.

For hardware i have the motherboard i mentioned and Amd x2 6000+, xfx geforce GTX 260, Kingston DDR2 pc6400 4096mb CL5, 650W Corsair Powersupply. As far as i know all my drivers are updated.

SoundMAX usually has it so the motherboard manufacturers have to provide drivers, for Asus (Which I use a motherboard from.) with this semi inbuilt SoundMAX 2 card (I use a Xonar D2X now however.) it's been updated once past the initial drivers (Over the course of a few years.) and only as a beta to better support Windows 7 so some manufacturers are a bit slow with support, there's also a SoundMAX SoundBlaster X-Fi variant though it mostly emulates certain X-Fi functionality like EAX 4.0 and needs it's own drivers, some models are also based on Realtek HD Audio and works with those drivers which helps as Realtek usually publishes a new driver monthly.
