Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying...
Too bad your analogy that you thought was so smart fails so hard. While Twilight may be popular, it doesn't reflect from the critic (Rotten Tomatoes) or user (IMDb) ratings. So comparisons with Starcraft are inappropriate.
iNatan wrote: | This goes back to the same discussion we had in another thread. Playing safe for mass market and mainstream |
I don't see what's so mass market or mainstream in the archaic RTS mechanics? I'm sure most of the derps look at the Starcraft gameplay and just scratch their head and think wtf are people seeing in this. If anyone's guilty of trying to mainstream their game it's Relic with the streamlined mechanics and pretty graphics.

3 races balanced to perfection vs 9 races (DoW) balanced to I don't know what.

Sorry dear, the only critic I care about is me. Critics also tell me Avatar and Crysis were amazing experiences.
As for DoW, the first one and its expansions, you are correct, the last expansion did make a mess, but it was not developed by Relic, unfortunately. But of course, THQ is to be blamed that they wanted to milk the cow a little more and Relic weren't up to the task of doing that. But as of DC, they were quite balanced eventually. It took time, but they got there. So yes, seven distinct races is more impressive than three distinct races.
But let's leave it at that, I seem to be making people angry.

I'm not much for RTS titles anyway (Empire Earth/Red Alert/World in Conflict not withstanding) but the SP campaign in DoW2 was incredible! Great story, tons of "loot" and some marvellous squad-based gameplay. Hell, it was more RPG than vanilla RTS. |
it was nice for a few first hours but it soon became tedious and repetitive. sure it introduced some nice new elements but it lack variety, every mission was almost the same as previous one, only in different environment. boss fights, item/squad management was quite nice tho.
anyway, how many MP maps dow2 had at launch? lol?
sc2 will also have squad management of some sort, you will be able to develop new upgrades/technologies for your units, and even hire/buy new ones - classic iconic units from sc1 (which are not in sc2 multiplayer) will have their comeback. sc2 missions will be more varied simply because you have this classic 'base building/resource gathering' element, as well as micro-management of small unit groups. i personally dont like rts games that focus only on one of those (dow, company of heroes).

who the fuck cares about it? dude, serously. its the most competitive rts ever where every split second in timing/build order matters (on pro level obviously) and you 'complain' about the fact that buildings dont rotate around each other trying to avoid overlaping and collision? dunno if you know but some units in sc1/2 do actually stack on each other, is that another bug? c`mon, this argument (pic) is ridiculous. it makes you look like you are happy because you found something you consider a bug (lol) ^^

buying sc2 grants you access to the d3 beta? havent heard about this, afaik theres no connection in buying sc2 and d3 beta.

Eh, relax there dude Forgive me for caring how polished the overall presentation is. Seriously, lack of collision prevention in a 2010 strategy game is what is ridiculous. How does that fact that it's competitive matter? Pardon my need for polish then.
It was semi-humorous anyway.

Better that way, otherwise the retarded units dance around each other trying to find a way to get to where you clicked.

It's 2010 we've got clock cycles to spare on path finding. The problem is the scale of SC with huge units and tiny maps.

theres no problem with that, units movement is great, try stack for example group of zealots and order another group of stalkers to move trought them, see what will happen.

Nah, just kidding
Regarding the collision detection, I'm sure they can easily make it different. They can easily add a de-materializing and re-materializing animation while they are crossing. |
that brings another problems like attacking flying buildings when they dematerialize, lol.
they could easily make them go round each other and land in proper places, yet they didnt due to the reasons mentioned earlier.

I sincerely object ot this bullshit statement. Lack of collisions is a huge downside as it takes lots of strategy out. It pretty much negates any need for unit formations.
"Yay, look at my blob of 20 Ultra Zergs!" |
you obviously didnt play sc1/2 on semi-mid level.

Yep. And when in combat, have the units just stand in one place and shoot - the concept of cover is for pussies from the 20th and 41st centuries.

Yes, it's amazing!
This is just ridiculous. No, this is not a game released in the early 90s, this is a game released in 2010.
