That about sums it up!
Next week though I got myself an opportunity to play Uncharted 2 on a big ass screen with some stupendously cool surround sound set. Probably it'll be quite a bit of fun

I can only play one game at a time for about 30-45 minutes, then I really have to do something else/useful or I'll get a headache

No, I said I bought 7 games today. Not the latest one. Just bought a couple of cheap ones to have something to play..
Speaking of how long people can play - I can play everything from 10 minutes to 24h no problem depending on what game it is.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Anyway, finally ive got a blueray player...thats pretty much the reason I got it (yes yes, I do know there are cheaper pure BR players...but still, having a console is quite nice) | welcome to the PS3 family

Congratulations. You won't regret it..well you might when you have to start paying for all of the GREAT games on the system.
I just wish someone would hurry up and crack it though. Paying for games can be a real pain in the....wallet.

hehe aye...so far I've only bought "old" games cheap (Assassins Creed 2, Little Big Planet, Fight Night 4, Fifa 2009, Star Ocean (got it with the console), Killzone 2 and soul caliber 4). But I thought as I havent played anything on ps3 at all - i should be ok with these games for now. I do want RDR but I cannot afford it atm.

Its well worth it when you can afford it, I wanted the 360 version due to some reviews saying the PS3 one had issues, but I played through it and did most of the side missions and didnt have a problem.
I only encountered one bug and that was not a show stopper (NPC poker players lost their textures when a train went past, they got them back when the train went back past)

oh and Ankh get http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/ its a media server with this you can FTP movies to your ps3 by connecting PC with a serial net cable to the console
why Ftp movies to the PS3 well... PC takes 230-250 wats + audio+ LCD = thats like 500w
PS3 only takes 40-60 wats .... and 100wats when playing BD or HD movies + LCDTV = 160w
now thats energy efficient
oh and i advise you to have 4 logins to have access to all 4 PSN stores UK English , US American , Jap Japan and the forth for your normal R&R buys
oh and on the US channel you can get free things... free movies and games :
today freebie is the classic Godzilla 2000
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/21/godzilla-2000-available-as-free-rental-on-playstation-store/

yeah you can also you those...
the best thing is , when you plug your ps3 to the PC you can use the PS3 Wifi as a modem for the PC
and if you have a spare bluetooth you can plug the PS3 to the PC to have a wireless PC pad compatible with all Xbox360 ports on the PC games

That might be useful, but the major downsize is that the PS3 can't play mkv files. You will either have to use mkv2vob to make them playable, but then you can only have 1 audio stream, and sometimes it needs reecoding, which obviously takes a long time and results in quality loss.
Or you stream the mkv file from your PC, but then that will have to be turned on as well and the quality will also suffer...
In the end I got myself a WDTV because it was too much of a hassle with mkv on the PS3...

yeah
PS3 has problems with Avis that have custom synch sound... only way to have sound in those movies is to transcode those to MP4
and for transcoding PS3 media i use Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 6 , it uses Cuda up to 7 cores and custom things
you can transcode all stuff
the only sad news are no emus... they removed the BD-Java SNES/NES emulator that worked from a USB stick , no other OS that runned Linux and with it you could Dump BDs on the HDD and even run emulatros , no PS2 emu that the 60gig had
but you can Run PSone Games on your PS3 and even Burned PSone games [on the 60 gig you could even play burned PS2 games] you only go a swamp from a original to a burned copy

Is it possible to play burned PS1/PS2 titles on the 60GB *natively*? Or do I still need to get a USB-Loader?

not kidding it works [on Slims only the PSone swap disk works and the USb-loader to run OS1 games]
or take apart the ps3 bd and swap the original in the right moment for the burned one

Well I know for a fact that Swap Magic doesn't work on the 60GB PS3 for playing PS2 backup disks, not by default. You have to open the machine and literally RIP the BD tray open and swap the disks that way. The only time you can use Swap Magic is for loading the HD-Loader ELF file and then booting PS2 backups from external HDD.
Unless there's a new tutorial/etc you've seen and it works?
