Ignition Entertainment announces Blacklight: Tango Down, a military first-person shooter in development at Zombie Studios to be released this summer for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The first screenshots from the Unreal Engine 3 game accompany the announcement, as well as a teaser trailer with cinematics and snippets of gameplay. Word is:
Blacklight: Tango Down will deliver some of the most exciting multiplayer gameplay available in the shooter category and features numerous gameplay styles and functionality. These modes include traditional formats like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch & Control Point, with other modes being announced in the build up to launch.
Blacklight: Tango Down will set itself apart from other games by virtue of its incredibly deep customization features. Players will be able to alter and upgrade not only their character through experience gained on the battlefield, but also their weapons. Weapon customizations will unlock as the player gains skill and experience points and will include more basic add-ons like sniper scopes as well as more complex enhancements, such as improved accuracy.

Bought this on STEAM last night as an impulse buy and out of sheer boredom - big fucking mistake. This is straight console port trash, hardly worth $5, much less $15. Levels the size of match-boxes, no dedicated servers, no text chat, sloppy mouse control when zoomed in, could go on and on....
Its got two cool features though -
-Instead of a smoke grenade you get a "digi grenade". Think Japanese porn mosaic blur, but in white and grey.
-EMP grenade causes you to experience a "blue screen" error temporarily. Actually freaked me out the first time
Other than that the game is complete garbage with absolutely no redeeming features, though the Counterstrike tards may enjoy it.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I didn't know anything about this, but I wondered why I kept hearing the press hyping this, and I also found it odd that as a new game, it's 15 euros or something like that, but now I know...Consolitis...

Thank you Immunity for the mini-review. You confirmed all my fears about this game

It's a interesting budget game but it has it's flaws, uses LIVE though so that might be of interest so some.

My biggest flaw with it is that it uses Unreal Turd 3. First and only match I played was with americans, and with UE3's notorious netcode, I had 250+ ping. The bulletlag made it far from enjoyable.

I know this sensation very well, playing as a sniper in Unreal Tournament 3 was definitely a endless agony.

There will be a sequel, it will be F2P and will use UE3:
Quote: | Yes, the Blacklight: Tango Down sequel (which at the moment is titled "Blacklight" for now) will be released as a free-to-play game. According to what Long told us today, "The full game will be free along with premium content that can be purchased in-game. Blacklight will feature a large number of improvements based on the player feedback we've gotten. And we hope going free-to-play will close that loop so we can respond even faster to player preferences."
So why go with the free-to-play/microtransaction business model? Long told us, "The free-to-play model is something we've been interested in since we first began working with Korean publishers four years ago. Free-to play is the model in Asia. It's exploding in China growing fast in Europe and emerging here in Facebook and iOS games."
The sequel will not reuse any of the content of the original Blacklight: Tango Down, according to Long. It will be an all new game with new weapons, levels, items and more. That includes the previously announced drivable mech vehicles. You can see the mech in the background of the first ever publicly released screenshot above (you can check out a high-res version when you click the above image). Long told us that the sequel will use the latest version of Epic's Unreal Engine 3 tech. |
