I used to play a lot of the old versions on my super nintendo, fondly remember being W.Germany - maybe it's me though but the new ones just don't seem as fun anymore?
What does 2005 have in store for us?

They've added a new skating engine where you arent pumping your legs all the time, there is gliding, like in the real NHL, and you can hit the jets and find some open ice. Obviously some more graphical improvements. New game modes, more in depth dynasty mode than 2004. You said you havent played them in a while. 2004 had the ability to set ticket prices, hire different types of staff like lawyers, medical, coaching, marketing, as well as improve your facilities IE equipment room, travel, arena and whatnot. And 2005 will be even more in depth, with more player development and managment of farm teams. I really cannot wait.

Im such a huge hockey fan its frightening at times. Im reading TSN daily for hockey info and the season isnt even going
A quote i found awesome from that article
Quote: | New open ice controls actually enable you to control two players at once, setting up shots and positioning, helping to add to the strategy of one-timers. This works by switching to a man away from the puck, working yourself into position, then hitting pass to whip the puck into the zone for a quick shot-on-goal. You'll even see your player bang his stick on the ice to call for the puck. There is also an open-ice support button that enables you to call for picks to clear the way. To counter these new options, the AI has stepped up and will pick up on your tendencies. Before you know it, if you keep setting up plays in the same spot, the computer defenders will play the passing lanes and intercept the puck, showing off the drastically improved player awareness. Other defensive moves include defenders pushing offensive players out of the way of the goalie, |
and this
Quote: | There is still a big secret feature that the designers claim "has never been done before in a video game". What that means, who knows, but if the game keeps developing at this pace, ESPN might finally have some serious competition. |
Out Augest 25th apparently.

Its by far my favorite sports game.. even though the last few years its let me down .. year after year on gameplay.. but.. still play...
I had it for my genesis the first year it came out.. haven't missed a version since.. be it SNES, PS.. PC.. I really hope they can learned a bit from Sega's NHL series as its way more realistic.

Wonder if NHL 2005 will be that much different from 2004. A new skating engine sounds good, but all the other things could have been done in an update or maybe add-on.
But thats the problem of all EA sports stuff. They release a new version every year, and the differences betweeen the versions get smaller and smaller. But they seem to make money out of that. So ppl obviously buy them.

From what Im reading, they are changing how the game flows, using a lot more open ice stuff. When they update the graphics, like they are doing they have to release a new game... It seems on all the reviews and articles they have done enough this year to warrent a change, just like 2004 was from 2003 with the awesome dynasty mode.

Well true but you can't change a lot of things since hockey is hockey and NHL is NHL. I mean what you want them to change the rules of hockey? Changes the player add blue lign remove the red one? It's a simulation of a hockey game in the NHL. So what can you except I think they to a good job trying to add new thing and improve some feature.
Reality is an illusion caused by the lack of alcohol.

Well i dont want them to change the rules of the game. What i was trying to say was, that a two year release schedule would be enough. I mean would you buy the 2005 version if you already bought the 2004 version?
I did that with older versions of Madden Football and was a bit disappointed.

Yeah, I know what you mean. However, you get the updated teams, graphics, modes, and of course the online play. I love getting a new version yearly.

When they say its never been done in a game before, im a tad worried that it could screw everything up, but then I realize that it could also make it amazingly good
