Technically these are not quite Germans. Podolski and Klose are Volksdeutsch from Poland, Asamoah - no comment, the other good player is Turkish.

Firstly they are all Germans, secondly they play as a team not individually, unlike some other teams, so individual stars in their team really don't matter, they don't even have stars like Rooney, Messi, Torres, thirdly the most important players, if I had to choose any, are Schweinsteiger and Lahm.

Spain will get raped when they play vs a team like NL or Germany.

Bookmakers put them as favorites to win WC (over germany and NL), how can that be ?

anyway, made another 20 bucks with a 50 buck bet on spain ... pathetic i know

i dont se spain win vs germany. Germany played consistantly gret last couple games, while spain was lucky 2 times in a row now, only scoring 1 goal each time. Also their attack lacks coordination and the will to score it seems. Its always "pass to Villa and lets hope he gets the ball". Which more often than not, he doesnt get

hes right, its technically not a german team... but who gives a shit, this is the way of the world..., noones technically anything anymore, really... you just have to live in a country legally to be considered of that nationality.

i mean shit, you could easily have black chinese players, or whitey round eye japanese players.. if only those nations weren't so gosh darn protective of their race... damn racists! *shakes fist*

Erm, no. You have to be naturalised, otherwise half of our team would be eligible to play in the German team, and they're not.

And Sin says it correctly: Podolski's grandparents had German citizenship before WW2, and as such he was able to sort of "claim" it back. For Klose it's different, not sure what the deal with him is, but probably something along the same lines

so basically hes a 'german' by a technicality... i mean if he has to 'claim it back'... come on, someone who was a german wouldnt need to rely on something like that.... its just 'convenient' for him because he wants to play football... and germany wants to win, so theyll look the other way to get the best players that they can get away with. and shit, its working so you cant exactly give em crap for it Very Happy

im not complaining about it or anything, its just how things are these days.

Mark van Bommel had a hard time with the former Dutch coach (van Basten), he even considered to apply for German citizenship, I am glad he didn't.

Yeah... but we have Sebastián Abreu.
On the defense... Fucile misses next match, but Godin is back and Victorino has been doing a great job, so I think we're ok.
The only thing I'm worried about is Lugano's knee.

To be fair, both Podolski and Klose have lived most of their lives in Germany. Podolski from when he was 2, Klose from 7. And the whole citizenship thing is because of WW2 - their families fled to Poland out of necessity. Both are Germans, both by heritage and by how they feel so it's not the same as some other countries where players are naturalised 2 years before one of these events Wink

they didnt even fled to germany. Their grandparents were germans, but after ww2, the terrain known as "east poland" i.e. prussia, was given to the polands.

Quote:
The 1990 German-Polish Border Treaty finalizing the Oder-Neisse line as the Polish-German border[27] came into force on January 16, 1992, together with a second one, a Treaty of Good Neighbourship, signed in June 1991, in which the two countries, among other things, recognized basic political and cultural rights for both the German and the Polish minorities living on either side of the border. After 1990, approximately 150,000 Germans still reside in the areas transferred to Poland, mainly in the Opole (Oppeln) Voivodeship, with a smaller presence in regions such as Lower Silesia and Warmia-Masuria.

some little history lesson (no agression or anything intended) !

the german "reich" began with the holy romain empire

the then Germany (more or less same germany as today)would eventually be control by the preussens (the Teutonic Knights). So germany was under Preussian control (modern day poland !) after second world war, they made poland a "buffer state" between germany and russia. In the process 1/4 of the original german land was given to poland, while at the same time, the Un(or whoever) gave 1/4 of natural poland to russia

something to read : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oder-Neisse_line

ok, i spent 20 bucks initaly to make bets on www.bet365.com and i am now at 210 bucks ( swiss franks, so almost 1:1 to $) and i am now at 210 bucks. Anyway, if you want bet the as me and win some cash, i placed 50$ on each germany and holland on win ...

PS : NL is @ 1.61:1 (low gain, major favorite @ NL)

Germ : SP = All on Germany @ 2.87:1 ( Underdog
)

so, i.e. My bets will give :

50$ on NL to win @ 1.61 and
50$ on Ger to ein @ 2.86:1

possible max won etc etc semi finals =

Holland wins, i make 30 bucks +-

Germany wins, i make 100+ bucks.

And betting aside, my gut tells me, there is no chance in hell that Uruquay or Spain will reach finals
