It's all about Kung Fu and China. And not about Karate which is japanese. Mr. Miyagi was from Okinawa and a Japanese. Why change everything from white american teenager with japanese teacher to black american kid with chinese teacher in china?
The kid is too young, his opponents too. The original movie was fun to watch.

Haha, yeah...I saw that too and thought it was pretty redundant calling it karate kid when it doesn't have anything to do with karate. -.-

He's not any black american kid. He's hollywood royalty and after that shitty bit of acting in The Day The Earth Stood Still everybody's been going gaga over him. That was the more idiotic bit of casting with him as that white chick's kid.

Guess Jacky Chan decided that he's old enough to get into Mr. Miagi's shoes now.
The $ makers in hollywood are going to kill at least 2 holy cows here- The original Karate kid, and the connection between the Afro-American culture and Kung-Fu flicks.

It has hollywood mainstream smeared all over it. The new 'karate' kid, now a movie for kids and teens with stupid humour. A movie I'm not gonna watch.

Well, a good friends of ours dropped by with a tip recently letting us know that in a recent interview with Jackie Chan, he let slip that this remake is actually going to be called Kung Fu Kid, not Karate Kid.
"They don't want to call it Karate Kid any more," Chan said. "They want to call it The Kung Fu Kid."
worry no more ?

whut. doom was at least based on the original premise and included characters and monsters from the series. its one of the RARE examples where a movie based on the game actually was WORTHY of taking the games name.
unlike fucking far cry. some fucking military installation and some fucking soldiers... whaaaaaatt....
but anyway... why is this called karate kid instead of kung-fu kid. easy. remakes make way more than new franchises. its just using the old brand name everyone knows, to make it more successful, pure and simple.
i think even at one point it WAS renamed to kung-fu kid, when some bright-spark realised that jackie chan wasnt japanese, but then some exec changed it back because, as i said, remakes make more money than new franchises. |

it used the same creatures from door 3, same archetypical characters and same setup... whether or not you liked it, or how good or bad it was, is irrelevant - the question was whether or not it was 'doom-like' enough to deserve the name... and yeah it was. the only thing it didnt do, was deal with 'hell'
its not like doom has some epic storyline that the movie ruined or something.

Well I couldn't care less for the BFG (which shined all in it's plastic glory ). But the fact that they changed hell for genetic experiments and all the other fucked up and kiddy stuff made me actually very sad  |
