i think its bad move to decide to add more and more options to pp effects and ssao etc Sad

Last time it was the same thing in arma2 and still is, FILLRATE/screen size pain in the ass, to any system in arma2 really,.. coupled with must be bad coding of said shaders buggy cache in the engine of the scene == bad fps/game lag etc..

If you notice they released a new patch recently yes? ok good but its right at the end of Arma2 and when Arrowhead is available, its a ditch attempt to say hey everything in Arma2 much better now go buy Arrowhead it must be better again..

Then along comes many more fandangled options to fuck about with that you cant split in a menu system, u goto ini edit it etc..And SSAO....

The game needs optimizing before you add more effects for gpu workload... its common effing sence to get your product streamlined and pretty equal across the board of gpu/cpu variants, and i dont mean just the "hey i just bought a I-453466363463 cpu and a nsmidia gtx-10001 card today game runs fine.. of course it would its got leg room to ignore the flaws of the game..

gee makes me mad, Arma was a fantastic game, Arma 2 was ok then it got worse with patches then a bit better, then terrible beyond all comprehension i remember in one update.. then left for a while when fucking about with mouse smoothing lol and gee shit lots of that went on.. Again that was due ot forum whining about mouse lag? I had none of that and the forums were posted with tons of they dont have it etther.
Along comes a few handfulls of snotty foiks with new setups that think they mastered the build in a day and whine about mouse lag and then we get patches and then broke for everyone but the few...

Sad for me and many more cause it is THE tactical game to have and play.. Alot of my old clans are still pushing on in the forums and ignoring the crap optimization and pretending everything is sweet, its because they love it so much they dont want to admit it has a few major flaws Sad

I just cant personaly play Arma2 unless its more fluid than it has been of late, oh and they let me effing change my language from german to english ffs lol.. (without mods)

Id like some stonking reports on ArrowHead whoever gets it and tests it only in MP please Very Happy Single player was normaly doable in Arma2... Mp had the problems with netcode etc...

Really dont wanna be suckered into another pile of coding issues and promises of many patches to come lark with this series.. Time to wait this out and really be sure..

I might end up trying MP tonight with a few guys who have it, but I wont make any promises. The netcode is probably still the same as in ArmA2, ArmA and OfP.

There were a few weird issues while I was mucking about in the editor but so far it all seems pretty nifty. Some mods for ArmA2 seem to be working just fine in OA...

PS: I will NOT be playing on any pub servers. Wink

Yea thats the thing. I mean it works fine for me as well with good FPS, in the editor with just me on the map. Who knows what might happen when some more units are running around. Laughing

1.06 which Arrowhead builds on is fairly OK but 1.07 which is the recent A2 patch has support for better memory management and much else which only parts of are in 1.06, Arrowhead manages pretty well in terms of optimization though (Aside from the new SSAO effect and the usual AA/SSAA) due to less vegetation (ArmA 2 had some engine issue with this, not fully fixed in 1.07 but apparently part of the next build, probably a beta for both A2 and Arrowhead.)

In general FPS improvements are between 5 - 10 FPS or so from 1.05 to 1.07 which is quite good.
(Cuts grass when flying at high altitude, support for four cores and better thread management across them, various engine and game optimizations and fixes though as above the Autumn type vegetation still causes a larger than expected performance hit and more work is planned plus content additions via DLC though nothing is know about this yet aside from a few UK units and stuff being demoed but not part of Arrowhead's initial release.)

EDIT: As above though with a lot of AI and in areas like cities framerate will still be affected quite a bit by all CPU and somewhat GPU calculations needed for it.

Well, sadly, the Steam support for this game is terrible. Steam only patches up to 1.04.

Edit: Or wait, they might have fixed this by now.

Steam makes you download the whole thing again every time there is a new patch, from what I was reading on the BI forums.

steam updates by doing a hash check and redownload files that do not match
with arma the issue is probably that large resource files change and have to be redownloaded entirely, while the manual patch can modify the files directly
there's not that many large files though

No idea if it was a bug or not, but it is ridiculous if it was designed that way. Think a BI dev said it was Steams fault, but it's happened before as well. The .pbo files are huge, so even though the patch from retail to 1.7 was only 350mb or so, I'm guessing Steam downloads the entire archives. Stupid whatever the reason I suppose Very Happy

Glad I have a boxed one.

It is a bug. It happened when Steam UI Beta came out. A lot of people who had Modern Warfare 2 started to redownload the game for some reason(luckily I had my copy boxed). So, my guess the thing that happened with ArmA 2 is a bug as well.

There is no 1.07 for OA. It's 1.52 which was released same day as the game.
OA is a standalone that can be merged with arma 2 but basically it's a toally different version.
