Lately, I've been using my computer generated phenomenomenon as an unwanted alarm clock My fan. It has been working like a charm; wheezing, coughing, screaming all around 3-7 am and sometimes throughout the day. Wakes me up since I'm a light sleeper Until tonight I didn't know which fan it was. I was screaming at it through msn calling it my cpu fan but that wasn't it. I slid open one of the round covers on the side of my case panel and inserted my finger into the cpu fan to make it stop and hopefully stopping the sound but it wasn't that fan. There was also the psu fan don't stick stuff in that one... it also wasn't that fan.
After careful inspection I found out it was my video card fan. I can’t really insert my fingers there every four am and fall asleep with my hand in a live pc… I’ve seen those pics of what happened to a mouse that fell asleep on an Ethernet card.
So how do I stop it?
I tried banging the pc really hard but it appears it kind of began being immune to that now. I tried shaking it really really hard but it only worked once and I kind of had to replace my Ethernet card. So I need sleep/help I can’t really fork over 400/500 on a new card to make this problem go away. It just won’t happen. Please. I can’t even make funny stuff up anymore. I turned into a sad man with a fake smile everyday at the office/classroom. My face went numb from that. Drinking obviously won’t make it go away or mute it out since I should be having a hangover right now:roll: Listening to music isn’t a possibility since the nice old African-Canadian lady living up above me loves to bang my ceiling really, really hard every time I put on some Floyd at reasonable volume from 9pm to 5am.
I ran out of options. Please help me.

so basically it's the friction that causes the noise... it just needs more lubricant I'll run through the shopps on monday and see what I can find/buy. In mean time I think I'll have to get used to sleeping with the pc off
thnx

why not just replace the fan....many aftermarket solutions...what kind of vid card is it? takes all of ten to fifteen minutes to take it apart...clean it ...apply some thermal grease and put it back together....done
