Lately, I've been using my computer generated phenomenomenon as an unwanted alarm clock Crying or Very sad My fan. It has been working like a charm; wheezing, coughing, screaming all around 3-7 am and sometimes throughout the day. Wakes me up since I'm a light sleeper Crying or Very sad Until tonight I didn't know which fan it was. I was screaming at it through msn calling it my cpu fan Rolling Eyes but that wasn't it. I slid open one of the round covers on the side of my case panel and inserted my finger into the cpu fan to make it stop and hopefully stopping the sound but Shocked it wasn't that fan. There was also the psu fan Laughing don't stick stuff in that one... it also wasn't that fan.

After careful inspection I found out it was my video card fan. I can’t really insert my fingers there every four am and fall asleep with my hand in a live pc… I’ve seen those pics of what happened to a mouse that fell asleep on an Ethernet card.

So how do I stop it?
I tried banging the pc really hard but it appears it kind of began being immune to that now. I tried shaking it really really hard but it only worked once and I kind of had to replace my Ethernet card. So I need sleep/help Sad I can’t really fork over 400/500 on a new card to make this problem go away. It just won’t happen. Please. I can’t even make funny stuff up anymore. I turned into a sad man with a fake smile everyday at the office/classroom. My face went numb from that. Crying or Very sad Drinking obviously won’t make it go away or mute it out since I should be having a hangover right now:roll: Listening to music isn’t a possibility since the nice old African-Canadian lady living up above me loves to bang my ceiling really, really hard every time I put on some Floyd at reasonable volume from 9pm to 5am.

I ran out of options. Please help me.

hahahah ... I know your pain all too well. My comp makes all kinds of weird noises too. It whirrs, whines, screetches ... and I haven't ever bothered to open it up. I just turn up the volume on my TV while I'm going to bed, which works great. I have two young ladies living above me who don't seem to mind Smile

Maybe some day Smile I'm pretty sure that whatever it is, I won't be able to fix it. So ... denial is the cheapest solution

1. Whatever you do you should NOT bash your case or stop the fans with fingers, tops or whatever you got. It may stop the problem temporarily but it can damage your internal components specially what you did with the fans. It will make them sound even worse.

2. Buy compressed air on a can if you don't have any and clean the sucker from all ways and remove all the crap/dust. At the same time you could clean the rest. A vacuum cleaner should not be used on components and especially not on fans but when you have blowed of all the dust with the can you can use the cleaner to remove all the dust/crap from the bottom of the case. It shouldn't be dangerous.

3. Remove the plastic sticker on the fan/s and insert a bit of padlock oil. Before you apply the sticker again, remove all the oil that is present around the whole and apply the sticker. If it still doesn't apply, remove the adhesive with your fingers and glue it Smile.

Sad so basically it's the friction that causes the noise... it just needs more lubricant Laughing I'll run through the shopps on monday and see what I can find/buy. In mean time I think I'll have to get used to sleeping with the pc off Sad

thnx Smile

And when that happens, I'll throw the piece of shit outta the window and just use my laptop. It's almost as good anyways ...
