Ok, so some months back I got some keys from MSDNAA and gave one of them to my brother to his with his notebook. Now that notebook broke, and he got a new one which had Win7 pre-installed. Now obviously he doesn't need my old key anymore.
Can I use that key on another PC now or is it bound to that (broken) notebook forever?

Generally, MSDNAA keys are tied to a single machine .. but according to my mate (Uni student and member of MSDNAA) you can call MS, explain you've changed computers and have them grant another license to install.

Ummm no they're not Very Happy

I installed my win 7 on 3 or 4 comps all with the same key. Although only on my comp could I activate via net, and on others I just called their automated activation thing, where I got the message: did you installed win 7 on other machines with this key, and I pressed 1 (or sth like that) and I activated normally after that...

Brain engage fingers before typing. You just CONFIRMED what I said;

1. MSDNAA keys are tied to a single machine. You confirmed that by saying "I could only activate my comp on the net"
2. I said you have to call MS and they will grant further activations. You confirmed that by saying "and on the others I just called their (their being MICROSOFT!) automated activation thing.

I thought you said you have to explain sth, when it's really just automated recording, and you've said that you need to say you have changed computers, and I'm saying I have the same key ACTIVATED on 3 or 4 computers at the same time, but that on the others you need to actually do some work (clicking on the dials Rolling Eyes)

I was paraphrasing .. and you confirmed everything.. Rolling Eyes Whether it's an automated service, or whether you have to talk to a human (and FYI; I've had to talk to a human before to get my old license key working on a new computer) - it's still the same; you CANNOT activate five simultaneous machines with the same key unless you call MS.
