An even more pressing question is the kind of hardware you will require to run Unreal Engine 3 games. Next-generation consoles will have no problems with Unreal Engine 3 games, but PC gamers don't need to worry, according to Rein. He said that a video card based on an Nvidia 6600GT, the kind currently available for around $250, will be able to handle games based on the engine easily. However, by the time any games based on Unreal Engine 3 ship next year, those cards will have dropped in price considerably, meaning that PC gamers won't drop big bucks on upgrades.

if a 6600GT can handle it, what bout ATi? will have to wait for their next-gen card?

first game early 2006.. so lets say, in 10 months.. whoever is with ATi right now, and that is the majority of people, will need the new next-gen card from ATi i suppose

In the videos the game did have a slight stutter. I would say it wasn't on a high end card so I can believe that.

This movies look really really good. That's the best engine I have seen since Doom 3, and even looks more impressive then Doom 3. The physics movie really blew me out. I hope tough, that the game will look exactly like that, cause all these techdemos make things look pretier.

What's really impressive about this engine is not just the physics and the incredibly high quality bump mapping, but the raytracing, it looks so good! On the first demo they showed with that monster guy walking around in front of the moving colored light, the shadows on it are so damn realistic!
Sure, Doom 3 has nice shadows but they aren't realistic. Just like Morrowind's water looked really nice but it wasn't realistic. But these shadows and lighting effects...woah

oh and if it's not raytracing that's responsible for those effects, then sorry about that I just think I read somewhere that Unreal 3 uses it (although I didnt know today's hardware was able to properly use it in real time)

You have to understand that the avg system configuration will be of a much higher level than it is now by the time Unreal 3 is released.

Doom 3 was like "omgwtfbbq that is the bestest shit i've ever seen!" long before it went gold and people were complaining they'd never be able to run the game. I think it'd be safe to say it will be the same with Unreal 3.

Agree completely.

also agree and anyway if you really want to enjoy these sort of games, you gotta own the latest gen gfx card and be close with the cpu and ram.

well I knew software raytracing was available but it's so cpu intensive that it could never be used in a game properly, and it doesnt exist for that long as well, and the X800 is based on the oder ATI chips and doesnt have many high-tech features so I thought it doesnt have support for that yet.

DNF uses Meqon physics engine, not Havok.
