I´m pretty sure DNF will still be a top game no matter when it will be released...I´m even sure it will beat the shit out of all those boring FPS to come including HL2 as the long development time should have an impact on game features, story, etc.

What have you seen of DNF that makes it look better than HL2? HL2 oozes atmosphere and creative attention to detail, while, as far as we know, DNF has strippers.

DNF will be a pile of shit, they delayed it for so long now, its prolly no longer in the development, and if it is its so overhyped its will turn into a pos and a huge disappointment, I suggest you all keep your panties on and move on.
From the pics of DNF Ive seen, it looks like a budget game.

The game will become retro before it is even released.

@Cartoon : As far as i know Take 2 is financing the project but they cant just boot 3D Realms out as the rights are property of 3D Realms.
And I think its a good thing that a developer is stepping up against the timetables of the publishers to make a game right the way they want it to be...just look at all those buggy crap games released (especially EA games) because the timetable is too strict to allow bugfixing and implementation of all features planned.

That's just the thing... it should not take 9 years to start asking for user input. What this means is that 3Drealms has spent the last 9 years either:
a. working on a design document the size of the bible
b. masturbating and playing EverQuest
I'm all for letting developers work for as long as they needed, but this just means that they went off track completely. They obviously have no idea on how to make the game, seeing as how they switch engines every couple of years and still ask users what they think should be interactive in the game world and how. Way I see it, they are just stalling - since they don't have to actually do any work (as they are getting paid eitherway), they just spend their time sloooooowly thinking about what kind of shirt Duke should wear or what kind of noise should the pig cops make (hint: they are pigs.)

True, but if you want to create a game with is heavily based on its single player campaign its sometimes tricky to not ruin it by adding mp.
Hardware: Ryzen 3700x, B450 MSI Gaming Pro carbon AC, GTX1080, 32 GB 3200 Mhz cas 14, 256 EVO SSD, 1 TB EVO SSD and 4 TB HDD.
Console: xbox, wii and xbox 360

Why that ?
Every game which uses an engine which has a network code should be able to have a multiplayer mode. And in my eyes coop mode is one of the most important multiplayer features as most games are plain boring in dm
And concerning ID Soft it´s really dissapointing to see they realize the coop mode on that stupid XBOX on which the game will suck anyway (as all FPS suck on consoles) and give stupid arguments like "PC gamers dont really want a coop mode"....that argument is actually the reason why doom3 will be the only ID Soft game i dont buy.

9 years of dev and once the game will be out, it's going to be a total crap...I want to see the look on the face of the devs.

exactly .. 9 years for nothing!
People seem to think this will b the mother of all games cause it took so long to make etc.
its cause the devs are so fucking shit and all they do is eat pies and dont have the skills or confidence to make a good game in a normal timeframe

I thought goldeneye on the N64, Timesplitters on the PS2, and the MOH Series (Minus Rising Sun) were great... I mean sure they aren't the best but far from being horrible or the worst... they are better then MANY PC FPS.

Quote: | GamesIndustry.biz has posted its impressions from a preview look at DNF's "Meqon" Physics engine, which is being used to power the physics behind the Unreal Engine game Duke Nukem Forever:
In a short but hugely impressive real-time demo, a room is almost completely demolished using a weapon that fires tennis-ball sized projectiles. In the first section of the demo, glass panels shatter realistically and fragile boxes full of objects suspended from the ceiling are smashed, leaving jagged corners hanging on ropes while the contents smash to the floor.
In another section, a tiled wall is destroyed realistically, with tiles breaking and popping off the wall when they're hit sufficiently hard, while further demonstrations of the engine's prowess include human shaped "rag doll" models in glass boxes, which react realistically to the environment around them being damaged, and most impressively of all, a completely interactive piece of cloth suspended between poles - which billows and stretches when it's shot, and can even be filled with balls like a hammock.
The demonstration goes far beyond the rigid-body physics which has impressed so many players in games like Half-Life 2, and according to Meqon CTO Dennis Gustafsson, every effect is entirely real-time - with even the smashing of fragile objects being generated on the fly, rather than happening along "fault lines" inserted by artists. |

discuss dnf is real!

Yeaaaaaa.. what the gawd damn evar! This coming from a development house and some fat slob *cough* Georgie Boarass-a! *cough* who keeps hyping a product that is obviously suffering from a montley crew of inept and disorganized bafoons. Like typical bloody marketers they prod the consumer with little itsy bitsy bits of "lurid treats" to keep us interested.
CUT THE BS AND GIVE THE PUBLIC SOMETHING CONCRETE ! ! ! ! !
HYPE KILLS, MERIT ENDURES ! 3Drealms: SHOW US SOMETHING TANGIBLE THEN GET IT F**ING DONE! Damn Shareware dumbnuts.

I think this DNF thing is perhaps the most ingenious marking campaign ever. When this finally comes out, LOADS of people will buy it because the publicity it has received over the delays and they will be amazed it's out.

I never thought of it that way. Intentional or not ... it's still doing a hell of a lot for publicity. Especially if it actually turns out to be good.
