L4D2 should've been DLC for L4D1, yes - and the HL2 episodes have taken far too long.
Thing is, for me personally, they are also the few games that I've thoroughly enjoyed. I own every single game they've made, and I've enjoyed every single one. They definitely made some weird choices, but me and my mates have had a blast with L4D and its sequel (playing them with 8 of us, with all the voice comm raging after 25 point hunter pounces that go with it  ).
L4D 1/2 might've been their quick cashcows, but I sincerely doubt Episode 3 will disappoint. The source engine might be a bit dated compared to some of the other engines, but for lower end machines it's quite fantastic.
And like Ashok0 says, they're not implementing bullshit DRM's, nor have they haven't consolified their games just because they want them to be multiplatform.

I like the steam thing, I mean you really don't need to buy the case and shit for a game these days, just pay and play If I'm ever going to buy a game, I'll buy it via steam

It's their flagship product. They're probably working on a new Source engine and there probably won't be EP3. They might be just making HL3 which will serve as a tech demo for new Source.

Judging from what they've done with Portal 2, I'm sure they'll just milk the old engine and do an ep3. Making a new engine just for PC isn't worth the effort$. Maybe we can see a new engine and hl3 when new consoles arrive, whenever that might be.

Well there's new Mac support and soon PS3. That has to be worth a slight engine re-write or at least a hefty tune-up. It couldn't have been so brilliantly written to be that modular from the start.
But Valve knows how to take their time.
