i found them all quite good, the fact that u can destroy surroundings (too bad its limited tho) is just awesome and should be standard in every game these days tbh...

Imagine Quake or UT MP where all surroundings can be blow to bits while doing DM...

Guerrilla did the destructible environments well - may've been nice to have deforming terrain as well, but guess they're leaving something for GeoMod 3.0.

UT3 had a promotion for physx that had a couple maps with destroyable buildings and what not. Was pretty amusing for a few minutes still we figured out no damage was done if a ceiling fell on your head.

Guerilla was only buildings and the likes, terrain was left out Sad That's what I loved abou teh first one, blow a hole a few feet into the wall during MP then wait till someone runs by then light em up haha

All I'm reading is: didn't play, didn't play and didn't play so must all be crap.

Honestly, first one was a good game. Second was a disappointment, and the third one was indeed amusing like Spykez says. Wasn't brilliant, but I know i had a lot of fun finding funny ways to get shit to collapse Razz

Gathering from the trailer, we'll be dealing with aliens in underground tunnels. That last part does imply we'll get the proper geomodding back if you ask me :>

-1 for the aliens though, why oh why do the aliens always jump us in tunnels :<

I liked Guerrilla.Big fan of free roam/sandbox games. Also played 1 and 2.Liked those to but Guerrilla was my favorite and really expanded the story.I did see what looked like some outside locations in the trailer, hopefully you won't just be stuck underground.

i dont get it. i say i dont like two games and this is suddenly a massive problem?

i look back at a game like doom or half-life (1 or 2, take your pick), modern warfare, or or even the more recent titles like arkham asylum and assassins creed 2 and think.. yeah.. that game had fun and satisfying combat. i look back and red faction and think.. meh

i dont get the problem, i really dont. the games combat felt dull and, like i said, unsatisfying. if it was the funnest most satisfyingist shooter ever for you or others, then thats geat, you're entitled to your opinion, why cant i have mine without being attacked by everyone?. im sure to some people halo was also a great and satisfying shooter too, but id say the same thing about that game as well... and no doubt get attacked just as quickly Very Happy

soldier of fortune also had fucking satisfying combat too Twisted Evil

point is, when i play a game - yeah story is important, but i look at gameplay... if its a shooter, is it viscerally satisfying and do the shooting mechanics and control feel tight and work for me. sometimes the answer is yes, for me with the first 2 red factions, the answer was simply no.

do we go to the last watched movie post and look at everyones review as fact, or do we take them for what they are... opinion?

someone says something is shit, no matter what the context, how can you see it for anything OTHER than their individual opinion? No one should have to (and indeed most DONT) have to put 'in my opinon' as a precursor to stating what they think... and anyone who expects them to do so, i dont really think understands how the internet works...

I only posted my comment because you stated that like it was a fact, without any arguments whatsoever to back it up. Most people will disagree with you though, especially on the first RF.

You didn't say "I found the games to be crap" or "I didn't enjoy them" but went "Those were crap, thus the one I didn't play must be as well".

This made me giggle a bit. How is the combat in RF1 less "satisfying" than the combat in AA or AC2 where it's mostly button bashing, or Doom which is pretty darn similar?

i shouldnt have to say 'i found the game crap' to make it clear i didnt enjoy it... and im sure if i had, id have gotten just as much grief anyway.. and as for the third game, there was clearly a question mark on the end of it as i was asking a question not stating an opinion or fact. but i guess you avoid and interpret as you see fit, right?

and combat being satisfying or fun has very VERY little to do with the complexity of the controls... and as far as button mashing goes, i guess you get out of it whatever youre willing to put in... actually from your perspective, pretty much most games could be considered button mashers right? But then i dont really see what that has to do with whether or not gameplay, or combat, is satisfying or not...

one last thing, i notice that spykez said the second game was 'crap'... he didnt say it was his opinion, and equally amusing he half way agrees with exactly the same thing i said to begin with! (first game being the only point of difference)... so yeah, ill say it again, i really dont understand the attack...

have things gotten so bad here that someone can not have an opinion that even HALF (HALF for fucks sake!) way differs from others, without getting attacked so harshly?

sure feels like it with 3 people are ganging up on me for having an opinion, when one person even agrees with half of what i said, but still insists on making a snide comment about me, and another is flat out accusing me of something i didnt say.

The last game was entertaining for a couple of hours, but it got old fast. I found it extremely repetitive after some time. When you destroy generic building number 345, you realize there's not much else worthwhile to do.

I'm not even telling you that you're wrong, or attacking you. If you check out Spykez' post properly, he "fixed" your statement.

And no, I don't consider most games to be buttonbashing games - nor do I consider that to be a bad thing. What I don't get is what exactly you didn't get from RF1's combat, that you did get from Doom or the other titles mentioned? HL2 aside (because you have the gravity gun to play with, as well as some physics gimmicks here and there), the games you mentioned are shallow on the combat front.

You did play the first one when it came out, and not years after right?

yes i played it when it came out and all i remember from red factions combat was that shooting the bad guys in red faction felt no different than shooting them with nerf guns or paintball guns or something... just didnt feel viscerally satisfying to me, where as games like doom and half-life did... and so did all the other games i mentioned. had nothing to do with the complexity of the combat - how 'shallow' they were...

See, now you're starting to make sense Wink

I get what you mean, and for the first part of the game that was definitely true, it got a lot better later on though Smile
