I finished my 1st playthrough on Normal/Recruit, I'm *considering* doing a Hard/Veteran path for my next one .. this time being a complete and utter bastard to everyone except the sexable chicks (since I missed SIE the first time round, I didn't get the "full set" achievement)

Ok, two questions for those that played/finished the game differently to me;

Oh and the Brayko battle was AWESOME! I played as a melee character so had enough points to really kick the shit out of him. Love the "reward" you get for beating him Very Happy

In which file should I put these settings?

XP is dying.I was a great fan of XP and hated Vista but having used all 3 OS's I can say Win 7 is the best.XP has seen better days. Its time game developers started focusing on x64 Os and Win 7 full support.XP won't last forever.

Realy trying to like this game but it's proving quite fucking hard. The game forces you to go guns blazing half the time, which is a problem with me having a stealth based character. And I'm stuck on Brayko, seriously, what kind of retard thought of these bosses?

Are you crazy ? Stealth is very much possible most of the time, I kill 65% of enemies stealthily. You have an ability to make no sound, another to be invisible, instakill headshots and stealth kills from whichever angle, even mark&execute 5 shots, wtf else do you want ? Laughing

All points on stealth, melee and pistol. And you're good to go.

I find it frustrating that most (?) bosses have way too good melee ...

Stealth is perfectly possible, the only hard part for me until now was the Brayko boss fight, havent been putting points in martial arts, only got 2, almost everything in pistols/stealth and some on assault rifles for those "fuck it" moments Razz

@VGAdeadcafe
If you are going stealth, why would you kill? You have the B button which gives you a nonlethal takedown, and you can use tranquilizer shots for the ones you really HAVE to shoot. I haven't shot the weapon more than 10 times. If you wait patiently enough, you can find the pattern, and these patterns in most times involve the guard being secluded so you can take him down. Later when you have the invisibility magic, it is just a matter of activating it, and taking the enemies in the middle quietly (the other ones you can take later with melee, if at all). If it wasn't for the retarded AI and clunky animations, you can play this game as stealthy as Chaos Theory.

Finished the game a few minutes ago with a stealth/martial arts character (with a few points on Pistol to see how the chain shot works Razz) knocking out almost everyone with melee attacks... so I must agree with VGAdeadcafe.
You have a lot of ways to remain undetected and you have a lot of ways to hide and knock enemies out if you are detected, the game doesn't force you to go guns blazing.
I've beaten Brayko using melee attacks too.

Invisibility+running without making sound = Weird, but it is stealth anyway Razz

edit: Oh and it took me like 10-12hs, not 20 like someone said before Sad

Beat it again, this time on normal (recruit). It was a much faster (about half the time) and easier play through than hard. My ending wasn't radically different, but that's partly cause I couldn't bring myself to do the other choice. That said...I did manage to screw over the two characters I most hated. Oh how epic it was Very Happy

I'm a bit disappointed at the limited amount of times the Recruit conversation option came up. I think it was 5 times at max. Time to play it through a third time, this time on Hard (veteran). Hopefully his dialogue lines are much more frequent and give a sense of real badassery.

Have you guys noticed the references to Deus Ex in Alpha Protocol? I'll be very terse so as to avoid spoilers...

-The guard in the tutorial tells you "No weapons are allowed beyond this point".
-Majestic 12 is referenced
- Sie = Anna Navarra archetype

Anyone find any others that aren't plot spoilers?

Stealth should be fully viable as it has a few special perks tied to it, never managed that though as some of the recent missions have forced combat encounters and other stuff.

Is there a way to make bypassing easier? I didn't see a skill for this stuff, and it's freaking impossible to find the 10 paths in 20 seconds.

Are silencers only for handguns or can i get them with sub machine guns and assault rifle ?

Especially assault rifles since this is the path i intend to take.

Also , how much skills can you max before the end of the game ? I need to know so that i can plan my character better. It may already be too late though since i just finished Saudi Arabia and distributed evenly between stealth , pistols , assault rifles and martial arts.

Silencers are only for pistols. Assault rifles have a special ammo type - subsonic rounds that do the same. You can max out 3 skills.

EDIT: Oh if you mean how many AP do you usually get per game - it really depends - since there are so many perks that give you additional points.

Absolutely fell in love with this game. It's really the next Deus Ex, I'm playing through it the second time, this time as Veteran (previously I played recruit). In the first run I chose "Professional" in most dialogues, now I'm taking Jack Bauer approach. Very Happy

My choices on the 1st playthrough:

EDIT:

@FireMaster, I liked AP way more than I did ME. Or ME2 for that matter.

I said it way before the game was released and I still stick by my statement: poor man's mass effect really
the levels are tiny as fuck, perhaps it would be more appropriate for the PSP rather than next gen platforms tbh
IA is laughable, most of the shit you buy or customize doesn't affect anything in the game levels, it really feels like a very poor game beta or alpha stage, no polish at all. and it was delayed so many times...

About mouse shuttering issue.

As far as I've seen, it happens when fps gets somewhat below 60fps, at 50-55 becomes noticeable, if lower, it can get very very bad.

If MaxSmoothedFrameRate is set to 30, same thing will happen only when fps drops below 30 (while being capped at 30 for rest of the game). It surely fixes the issue for machines witch are not that good to run game at constant 60fps, but are good to do that at 30fps.

I also noticed that bSmoothFrameRate from APEngine.ini and two bEnableMouseSmoothing entries from APInput.ini are connected.

If any of them is true while other is false mouse sensitivity will depend from frame rate. Higher framerate, lower sensitivity, lower framrate higher sensitivity. Still, even with both off, the issue with frame shuttering stays.

Completed it, a few minor bugs but otherwise nothing problematic, nice variation depending on how you handle the situation as well, varied stuff a bit at endgame but both endings proved very similar, Veteran and more self-centered instead of patriotic and duty is probably how I'll handle the next playtrough.

 Spoiler:

EDIT: Was never that popular with the women either, should have to improve upon that on the next playtrough as well, only got three quick sessions. Very Happy

EDIT: Why did that break? odd.
