im not worried about PC gaming, i simply vote with my wallet.
If there is a perfect DRM, but the game isnt worth the price i wont buy it.
A really good game but the DLCs are a rip off, i buy the game and not the DLCs.
Lot of crappy games for a bad price, but if i dont buy them there will be no more games in the future aka end of PC gaming : Tough luck, my life doesnt resolve around gaming, if there isnt a single game made anymore and the same goes for movies and music , i wouldnt shed a tear cause what is considered games today i can do without easely.

I'm totaly amazed that you can make a billion dollars and are still not profitable. When did game development get so expensive? It's not like they are developing cutting edge technology or they use some A-grade actors in their games. WTF??!! They should just sack their whole leadership for not being able to make a profit. |
Apparently AC2 sold 9 MILLION copies, even if you round the price DOWN to $45.. that's $405m in revenue. There is no fucking way, not now and not in this fucking dimension, that the game cost more than $405m to produce (including wages/promotional material, etc) I'd wager it barely cost a TENTH of that.
Ubisoft are just full of shit. Completely and utterly full of shit. You don't have to be an industry analyst, or a fatcat heading a publishing company, to see that. Any average dumb-ass can see THAT.
"$1bn revenue, but $0.00 profits"
Pull the other one, you fucking losers, it's got bells on it. If you're bringing in one BILLION dollars in revenue but none of it was profit, then you've got serious management issues. Either that or you're fiddling the taxes. |
Well I'm also in software company that develops accounting software for 8 countries. And let me tell you that with 10m € you can do miracles with your software in a year with good developers and leadership. With one billion you can probably take over the whole world & become new Goldman & Sachs. So I'm completely amazed that they can state they made a billion and still recorded loss. If this is true and the owners are not thinking of changing leadership there must be some serious money laundering taking place. Or they are financing North Korea to develop their own Star Wars program.
Fucking NASA has budget of 8 billion dollars per year. And all Ubisoft has to show for is some guy runing around stabbing people with daggers... what a bunch of losers.

It's the same thing with EA, they are both making huge losses, in comparison to actual sales
There is something badly wrong with these companies, yet they choose to ignore it and blame other factors
First it was piracy and now it's second hand sales that are supposedly threatening future game production, it's about time they started looking a little closer to home

can ubi make it any clearer?
they only care about making money, not games.
and i call bullshit, how can you make 1 billion sales and have losses...? the money is being hoarded by the higher ups.

Aren't these numbers a bit worthless for analyzing the DRM? The only game that was released with the DRM in the last fiscal year was AC2, right?

I didn't know where to put the news, so I'll post here:
Ubisoft targets 'less games, more depth'
Quote: | Ubisoft is to trim its game release slate and focus more on adding depth to core franchises like Assassin's Creed, according to North American president Laurent Detoc.
The exec told Gamasutra that the publisher's new focus is "less games, more depth".
Ubisoft is layering its games with new experiences through Uplay features and its new Companion Gaming initiative, which last week saw the release of a Facebook game that unlocks content in the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
"We have to be more focused," Detoc said. Ubisoft "want[s] to contribute more touch points, because we're in the brand business. I like to make that statement because it's ear-catching, but we're in the entertainment experience business, not the gaming business. We're in the brands business, not the gaming business."
While a focus on core brands is clearly the priority moving forward, Detoc said developer creativity won't be stifled.
"This is a creators' industry. There's an appetite to create. If you don't let people create content they're going to find a place to go. You don't want to let them express themselves in indie movies and Facebook games, so we do need to continue to have stronger receptivity to allow creators to come up with games." |

Thats the way I see it too. And thats not only the reaseon they are making losses, but also the reason why they produce shitty streamlined games with hollywoodian gloss and no depth.

Do you remember when Ubisof said: 'less games, more depth' ?
Well, kinda related:
Ubisoft is No.1 third-party publisher on Kinect
Quote: |
Ubisoft has claimed it's the leading third party publisher of Kinect games for Xbox 360.
"We believed in the potential of Kinect from the start and we set out to be the leading third-party publisher," said Ubisoft's North American president, Laurent Detoc. "It worked. But this is only the beginning for us," he added, according to Gamasutra.
While the firm didn't disclose sales figures for its Kinect titles - Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, MotionSports and Fighters Uncaged - it said that it hopes to retain the No.1 position in 2011 with games like Child of Eden and Michael Jackson: The Experience.
Microsoft said earlier this month that it had shipped eight million Kinect units to retail and "far surpassed" five million sold to consumers in the motion sensing peripheral's first 60 days on the market. |

Ubisoft may propose Kinect versions of all its brands to developers
Quote: |
Future releases in core-focused Ubisoft series like Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia and Ghost Recon could utilise Kinect.
Last month, Ubisoft claimed to be the leading third party publisher on Kinect, thanks to the success of games like Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, MotionSports and Fighters Uncaged.
And now the company is considering Kinect adaptations for its more established brands as it looks to solidify its position in the motion control market.
"We will be bringing some of the industry's most innovative offerings to Kinect soon," Ubisoft chief marketing and sales officer Geoffroy Sardin told MCV.
"I think we can propose Kinect versions of all the brands that we've got, but it is down to the production team. I can't announce anything, but we will have something for everyone, that I can assure you." |

Having worked 1year at Ubisoft, I can tell you the management is full of shit. They pay people massive salary who simply do nothing all day long, browse break.com, etc. Then they hire some internship and ask them to do all the work, not at all reviewing what they done, ship that in the final game. I left.

This is the same with half the companies out there. These assholes sit around and bitch about socialism and paying taxes when they're just beneficiaries of corporate socialism themselves.
That's how it was at GM, they had thousands of middle management people pushing paper in circles, failing to generate new ideas from old hats, and cutting wages and pensions for factory workers.
When the govt. came in they axed a ton of white collar jobs and now GM has paid back their loans plus interest and are profitable again. Which is obviously what is needed at ubisoft. I bet it took 5 mid management guys 1 year each to administrate the always online DRM alone.
But most places you try to get rid of middle management you go down yourself.
