When they've perfected the manufacturing process we'll have "TV's" of any size that we can just put on the wall like a poster.

Actually, there already are some proof of concepts of that Very Happy

Can't remember which conference it was, but I think it was Samsung who had a super thin, transparent OLED screen hanging from the ceiling by 2 measly wires, fucking awesome! I'll see if I can find those pics as well. I assume you've seen the picture of hammer + OLED? :>

Seen the prototypes for these a while back and yeah; Shocked Seriously. Absolutely stunning visual quality as well as being ultra-ultra thin. Shame they'll cost an absolute FORTUNE to buy Sad OLED is extremely expensive.

Ah, here we go; 2007.

It'll probably take five years atleast to get affordable. I'm actually more interested in the booklike aspects of such tech. imagine a penlike ebook which you can simply roll out and read the paper on or whatnot. Add wifi to it for example and it'd be brilliant.

It's not that it's OLED but that it is malleable.

Yes, but BECAUSE it's OLED is why it's possible to be this thin. You couldn't do this with any other display medium, to my knowledge, so it doesn't matter how impressive it is; the price is going to be a factor for all but the uber-rich.

Hell, just look at the Optimus keyboard. The MICRO keyboard, with only three keys, is over £150. The full keyboard is almost £1500. FOR A FREAKING KEYBOARD!

bit of a facepalm fail to be honest... all im saying is that i just dont find it that interesting in terms of practical applications, compared to, say, holographic displays and what not.

or hey, how about a flexible screen. one that can go from the size of a coin to the size of a plate, and be able to be used as a high quality display at any size between. THAT is something that could be cool. but rollable.. eh.. as forward thinking tech, sure its great.. any progress is... but practical usage... just not feelin it...

additionally, how is this movie/tv news?

The Philips one had a very low res and it was greyscale, it also had a lot of problems. So this one is still news.
