I watched the last two eps, it's still shit imo. The writing is just bad, subpar. Sad really, so much potential wasted.

I'm enjoying SGU.
Granted some of the eps are fucking bs but its still the first season. U gotta give it atleast 2 seasons.
If buy 2 seasons they haven't established an enemy and shit (and not those weird ass aliens they've encountered) and start meeting alien (but friendly) socities , then I won't be watching it anymore.
I still don't know why they gave up on SG:A....it just started to get good towards the end of S3 and by S5, it was pretty good. Then they cancel it....
Anyone know when the SG:A movie is supposed to come out?

Quote: | The tentative shoot-date of the movie was bound for late 2009 (a date now passed), though there are as yet no details on the release date.
The script for Stargate: Extinction has been written and is ready to go into production. The project however is on hold due to the recession and the decline in DVD sales. |

SG:A was dropping below acceptable ratings, so they canceled it, nothing unusual for the TV business world.
There are no news on the movie, production wasn't started because of the economic situation, and it's still on hold without any updates. It hasn't been canceled though(yet), if the situation improves, making production viable, they'll go on with it. A lot depends on SGU's success as well from what I've heard.

The two supposed leaders, Young and the Asian chick, are so moronic that it's painfull. You don't lock a door and tell a heavily armed group of invaders that you got them. It's just a door retard.

Well, it's not like the doors were made of wood. But yeah, why the fuck didn't he vent the gate room and then proceeded with resuscitating everyone after disarming them.

He should've known the Lucian alliance could have a technology to open the doors, tey wouldn't come unprepared. I don't know what purpose it serves exactly, but Young's incompetence seems to be written in on purpose. O'Neill telling Young he should get his act together made that clear.

Well there was no real reason to assume that the Alliance could in fact posses the technology to open doors on a ship no one knew even existed until some short time ago. It is only now clear that the Alliance somehow knows a lot about the Destiny, perhaps even more than the SG crew, so it was a reasonable decision on Young's part, unfortunately based on bad information.
The fact that he didn't vent the atmosphere surprised me too, it would be too risky to go all out like with Telford (it's not like you can resuscitate people at will with no trouble, especially considering the numbers), but at the very least they could keep the air out long enough to get an advantage without waiting for them to die, or forget about the rest of them and just save Telford. But again, he thought they would be trapped, so he chose a seemingly less risky plan.
Telford is on the ship now though, so Young's mistakes could be the grounds for a shift in command, even more so considering that Telford was supposed to be in command in the first place.
All in all however, if he just vented the atmosphere and the attack ended at that, that would be a little anticlimactic for a finale

i think by venting they mean opening it up and releasing it to space with all the people there.

venting the room of atmosphere means just that, starving the room of oxygen by letting it vent into space..

He should've expected the Lucian Alliance would have a plan. The alliance wasn't portrayed as a group of numbnuts in the previous Stargate series. An electronically locked door shouldn't be your last line of defense. Young could've known they would come 1-2 at a time, you can't get a whole army at once through a gate. Just wack them on the head while they're coming through. There were several other possibilities even a rookie could come up with.
I think the writers are willingly keeping Young incapable and stupid just to create a story. As O'Neill said, "maybe I should take charge".

Well they didn't necessarily have to wait for everyone to stop breathing, it was presented nicely at the beggining of the episode(effects of oxygen deprivation). Oh for crying out loud as one might say, all the marines could just then catch a deep breath and disarm everyone within 2 minutes. Again, writers picked a sharp tool and cut themselves with it.

well this just started showing on tv over here in nz, and so far im not impressed. the show is pretty fucking shitty... characters are all utterly annoying, dialog is pretty painful, that 'kid' is like a low rent crichton from farscape, and the plots, and how they are handled, are utterly retarded (i just saw the one where they went to the desert planet to clean the scrubbers or whatever the fuck it was... just utterly fucking retarded)
thing needs to massively improve otherwise i definately wont be watching it... this is way worse than any of the previous stargates, im surprised it hasnt been canned yet.

LOL.... i can only laugh about the voice overs.... it makes german releases unwatchable.... I really don't understand they have to voice over everything. I thought it had something to do with the german subtitles getting to long ??
I think it really destroys a character when he/she gets a voice over.
@Chiv Like moosenoodles said... just hang in there it gets better.

Every country does voiceovers for TV, what's so weird about it?

Nope, some countries just do subs.

True, many in fact just do the subs... and I hate it when they do voice-overs - I prefer to see the movie as it was made. Some shows suffer even more because of it, with animation probably being the worst offender.
There are some great very well done voice-overs however, but that is more common for full feature movies rather than TV shows, in my opinion.

They should just cancel this and other SG-productions and create a new show in mini-series format (ie. 1+ hour episodes) called Stargate: Oblivion or similar cheese where the shit really hits the fan, like Earth actually being a portal itself to a different universe or anything. SG:U is just blaaaaah...
