Good effort, Drunk_J!!!
I retried launching RC with all the latest versions of each dash with my video set to normal mode and all the HD settings off, still no help.
I also tried changing my regions, I tried only eastern, western, and central. Still no help.
I also have an xbox with an X2 Pro chip running 4981.67. It doesn't work there either.

Well, I have had enough testing. I just ran through testing all the Bios versions available for the X3 with no luck either. I got the second Xbox (that plays RC) for the rest of the weekend (as it is a friends that I am working on) and I am just saying screw it and try to finish playing it on their box - hehe.

i'm in same boat... i've got a 1.6 XBOX, Xenium ICE chip, and nothing seems to work (Time zone, HD settings, random reboots, hitting my head with a hammer).
I loved Metroid Prime - damn i hope someone figures out what the prob is here.... =(

I also got this "stupid" profile problem. I've got a V1.1 XBox, Matrix Mod
Chip, Bios Evox D6, Dashboard Evox 3935.
Who can solve this "riddle" ?

richberg - i guess us with the actual problem may have to figure out the problem amongst ourselves =( So.. couple questions...
1.) What is your default dashboard?
2.) Do you have an unlocked or locked hard drive?
3.) Do you have a large/upgraded Hard drive? (other than the M$ default one).
Shoot me any questions too... maybe by some struck of luck we can figure this out somehow.. since these HD/timezone tricks dont seem to work for us...

hmmm this game works fine for me, if it helps this was my method
I burnt the iso to a dvdr, then used dvd2xbox to install the game on my hard drive from the disk

phomello, to answer your questions:
1) default dashboard is Evox V3935
2) harddrive is unlocked
3) HD is an upgraded 120GB
I'm stuck with any other questions, maybe you can
tell me how your Box is hooked up to your TV and/or
computer.

Thanks... here's my own answers (shoulda said them b4)
-------------------------------------------
1) default dashboard XENIUM ICE dash (came w/chip)
2) harddrive is locked
3) HD is default M$ HD
As far as my setup... here goes
XBOX --> A/V Switcher
(via HD component cables + fiber optic audio cable)
A/V Switcher --> Projector
(via more component cables)
-------------------------------------------
This has to be one of the weirdest bugs/quirks i've ever seen in a game. If it was intentional chip-proofing by the developer, you'd think it would be more obvious/to-the-point than this error message (like "You have a chip, you can't play this game"). This error msg "you cannot create a profile starting with" sounds like there's almost a bug in the game code? Like it thinks there's an illegal character already "typed in" to the profile name even though we can't see anything.
Given the variety/inconsistancies in how some people have success, some people have no problems, i'm starting to wonder if it's a timing/luck thing, where sometimes the game code gets past this bug somehow (?). And these occaisional success stories of HD and/or timezone setting toggling somehow "solving" the problem for some people sounds like maybe the game has some magic window where it's internal "settings" have been changed, so some magic portal opens where the user has [X] seconds to make a profile before the bug comes back?.....
i am starting to go insane, so sorry if my ideas/theories above are just plain silly.. i'm desperate.. =/

I was wondering about something; ok we know through all the posts that the game works with some modded boxes and does not with others. We know it works with unmodded boxes. I was wondering if there is anyone with a totally factory unmodded box out there that is does not work on?
It seems to me that more people have it working than not. We need to make up a good list of exact info for consoles it DOES NOT work on.

Just quick update to note that i've tried both save game zips from xbox-saves.com and while I can see them in the profile menu in-game, all of them save "this profile is damaged". =(
feel free to try them yourselves if you haven't already - you might have more luck than me?

A miracle has happened !!! I changed almost all the different settings
in the MS Dashboard and tried to start the programm again and "hocus
pocus" it worked.
Don't ask me why, it just did. The problem clearly has to be somewhere
in the MS Dashboard settings.

no miracles for me...
being inspired by your post, i tried the same thing. changed all my VIDEO, CLOCK and AUDIO settings in MS Dash.... but still have the profile problem......
ARGH... so frustrating!!!!!

richberg - can you remember what M$ Dash changes you made? I tried a bunch of setting changes on mine, but had no luck. Maybe if you gave me a list of the settings you changed, i might catch some luck too?!...

My xbox uses the xecutor 2.6 chip with default evox dashboard, default hard drive and the drive is locked. I believe its xbox 1.6 since I only got it a couple weeks ago but not sure how to tell.
I was having problems with the profile but finally got it working.
I had tried dvd-r and hard drive. Game copied to my e:\
I tried those saved games as well and got the corrupted profile issue. I noticed in a couple of the saved game files it said it was checking the U:\ drive so i don't know if thats why those profiles failed.
Anyway when i went into the MS Dashboard (thanks to someone else's success with it) I noticed the region was incorrect. Changed that and set daylight savings on. I also checked my video and audio settings which were at the default and I left them that way. I checked my hard drive to see if there were any remnants of the republic commando game which i think the damaged profile was. I removed it to make sure then rebooted the xbox.
It worked at that point and I created a profile called T. I would have prefered another name but I didn't want to tempt fate.
If someone that is having this problem rents the game they can see if its just the ripped copy this happens with or the original as well.

I got the game working by changing the time zone in MS Dash. I think i got a Smart XX chip, version i don't know. Also, PAL xbox and the NTSC version of the game.

phomello, in MS Dasboard I went to Settings and did the following:
Selected Clock, changed time and saved, went back to time zone changed and saved went back changed Daylight savings and saved
Selected Language, switched to German and saved went back and switched to English
Selected Video, changed to Normal and saved
All in all I switched to several different options saved them and went back to set them to another option and save again.

*Sigh* This is crazy - usually these kind of quirks take me 5 minutes in the usual message boards and I've got things working - but this "profile bug" is ridiculous - nothing seems to work!
I've done all the tricks people are mentioning in this thread but nothing is working:
- Changed Timezone settings --> *still cant create profile*
- Chanaged Video settings --> *still cant create profile*
- Changed Audio/Video/Time settings --> *still cant create profile*
- Deleted save data game auto creates --> *still cant create profile*
- Launched game from EvoX --> *still cant create profile*
- Tried both saved games from xbox-saves.com --> *dont work*

Ditto - none of that worked for me either - X3 3029 Bios. But I am gonna try it all again now just for the hell of it!

Drunk_J - yah i just went through *everything* again - still no luck. I even tried reading through some of the user.ini, system.ini files in the UDATA folder the game makes - but nothing really stands out there (and that's probably an insane dead end anyhow).
lemme know if you figure anything out - i'll sure come back if i get it working...

Holy shit! It is working! I went back throught the entire Original Xbox menu and changed everything, then went under the memory section and deleted the saved games, restarted and it worked.
-I set time zone to GMT - 0 and saved
-Set language to Deutch saved then back to English and Saved
-Changed Audio from Dolby Surround to Stereo and saved
-Changed from Widescreen to Fullscreen and turned off HD modes and saved
-Then went to hard drive memory and deleted saved games.
Ok, now I am gonna go back and change back the settings one at a time to my normal settings untill either they are all back to normal or I find which one creates the error!!
Repost findings in a few!!
