This game isn't about billions of generic loot with different stats. the weapons don't mater much, Gerald's improving abilities do.

Yep, that's the game, you only change witcher weapons and armor 2-3 times in the entire game, it's more about ability progression, like Mister_s posted.
Those action RPGs like Diablo 2 and Titan Quest are awesome, too, but this is a different approach. For example, you get very little XP from killing monsters, this game is the opposite of grinding, you progress along with the quests.
It's heavily story-based, unlike Diablo 2 + similar games. Try to love it for what it is, the story becomes epic soon enough, trust me ! The game fucking rocks.

d2, torchlight. titan quest ( such awesome game.. makes you hate yourself for pirate you are, for ruining the company ) are different kinda of rpgs.. its hack and slash.. from 2d 2.5d, or gods view.. call it whateva you feel fits you..
games as witcher, dragon age ( some might disagree ) mass effect 2, and probably bunch of other games i cant think of atm,
Are story based rpgs, where you change your items once or twice..
both of them are awesome, witcher might have bit meh first 5 hours of gameplay.. castle is somewhat fun.. early outdoor/town area is bit of meh, untill you get into it.. and start following its story.. im not a reader, or anything but lore and story in that game, was best i ever seen..
when you playing overnight , wanting to find out what happens next, then you realize how good game is..

Glad I'm not the only one.....
The skill system seemed pretty neat, but loot is the key for me.

Yes! Finished it 5 times or more the combat was brutal, realistic, bloody, the best no doubt.

It really was great, I didn't hear from the studio again though, I think it was Spanish but I'm not sure.
That was great and if anyone remembers an even older game, Die by the Sword, where mouse movement controlled the swings of the sword, it was really frustrating at times but so satisfying when chopping limbs or decapitating...

Yes. I rebember was grreat too. Anyway the severance company was called rebel act studios, and was from spain.
"Rebel Act Studios were a game studio founded in 1996 from Spain
In its short lifetime, Rebel Act Studios only released one game, Severance: Blade of Darkness. Despite critical acclaim for the graphics and controls the game found no commercial success, yet is till considered an underdog classic and widely respected for the sophisticated implementation of melee combat mechanics. After the swift demise of Rebel Act Studios, three of the former employess went on to found software designer Digital Legends. A few other members went on to form MercurySteam Entertainment. "
When mastered the combat was amazing.

It'll open up but don't expect total freedom. It's a story driven RPG.

The Witcher 2 is estimated to sell at around 3 million copies according to Forbes magazine.
Quote: | Around 1,5 million copies will be sold on PC alone. Another 1,5 million will be sold on consoles. The Witcher 2 would bring around 100-120 million dollars of income. That's the same amount that the Polish cinematography earns throughout 3 years.
The royalties for CD Projekt Red will also rise, because of the known IP that The Witcher has become. It is expected to rise from 30 to 50-60% , which would mean around 200 million dollar income overall.
The numbers make a huge impression, especially if you consider the fact that the first Witcher was made with 8,5 million dollars budget, and the sequel, according to CD Projekt, will not cost much more. |

I really wish Cd Project Red all the luck BUT I'm also praying that they won't fuck Witcher 2 up just because they want to release it for consoles as well.

Indeed indeed. My fingers are crossed that it will be as good as the first one, if not better.

Well in eastern markets where the Sapkowski novels are very popular (Poland, Russia ect.) PC's are the dominate systems

I know I will buy this title. I try to buy every deserving PC game that get released. It's the shite that should get pirated in my opinion. It's also the best way to ensure a healthy PC-future both by sending a message to developers that we crave quality and that quality will be rewarded by pc-gamers.

After all the crap I've seen from Remedy and Epic Games, CDProjeckt is getting as much money as I can put in their pockets.

I'll wait for reviews first (unless I'm impatient) because I can't see it not being dumbed down for a wider audience.

Well, it's not like it was some hardcore RPG with crazy stats etc. The battle was simple and the character progression limited (all builds ended up similar)
It was more about the story/diaalogue and the atmosphere for me, that shouldn't change.
