So, basically, a 6-7-year development period has been flushed down the toilet? From what I've gathered so far, it turns out to be a mediocre and not-so-horrific title (and not so psychologically engaging), which needs at about 8 hours to bring to full completion. An alone-in-the-dark clone on rails with scripted events. It appears like a decent game which is only good for a single ride-out considering its low replay value as a one-time singleplayer experience. Will give it a try as soon as it swoops down to the pc if that ever happens. For now I won't be regretting a single second I'm not being able to play it. Besides I'm currently awaiting Black Mirror 2 which I think it'd be a more interesting title as in regards of mysteries, secretive agendas and conspiracies.
You post fits Alan Wake and Max Payne equally well, therefore I conclude that you dislike Max Payne and Remedy's style in general. Since you do so, why should you even care for Alan Wake in the first place?

not 8h , this game has 6 episodes , each one can be completed from min 2 to 3 hours max so you can say its a 12-18h game

"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen."
:Derp approved!
i have my LcdTV 22'' that i use as a monitor PC and a console TV, its like 50 cm in-front of me and i can say the visual quality and the textures suck bad, no wonder they said its a couch experience , my TV couch is like 6 meters away of the TV .... the problem here is its a 32'' so its still looks like a washed up shit even from those 6 meters
Having played it for a while now and owning both a decent pc and consoles I can happily say "Yup the game ROCKS, rocks HARD."
Atmosphere far superior to Max Payne, amazing audio, deep character exposure and outstanding effects, yup one sweet game all right.
I do recommend it more for the older gamer though or someone who might get more from it than some younger players who's eyes might be drawn more to the less cerebral.
Anyone interested in a non-biased take:
Spoiler:
The game is very atmospheric with excellent use of sound effects (especially 5.1) and colour palette, the controls are easy to use, responsive and uncomplicated.
Both the games mechanics and approach reminds me of a superior Silent Hill.
Getting good fps, the camera swings around you and the environment as fast or as slow as the analog sticks pressure allows while the movement reminds that's it's you in control rather than on a semi-auto linear-railed track although the sandbox option was removed which was a shame.
The light sourcing has been well thought out as befits a premium title enhancing the overall appeal of your experience.
One of cool environmental features is that a lot of scenery is interactive in that it moves when you touch it, as well as non interactive but malleable objects like trees blowing in the wind or brushing up against a bush which will move according to the pressure you apply.
You might say "ah that's been a fundamental feature of games for the last few years" but it hasn't not really, a lot of supposed triple AAA titles feature bland non-interactive environments so i am pleased to see they took the time to include it.
The interactive cinematic effects are well designed with a nod to Hitchcock/Condemned and while creating a tense feeling never feels overbearing.
Ok, the prologue has walked me through how light is used as a weapon in this game and was very clever by using the old Oblivion trick of dark restricted spaces opening up to wide open visages in the first chapter.
tb's shocker fact # 47: Some game play elements are better than Heavy Rain.
This game is going to be a classic, finally a grown up's game.
Here is a creepier version of In Dreams from Blue Velvet:
Why do people keep commenting of this game in the pc section...when its not going to come for PC anymore?...There's the console section for that ^^;;;;..

Because the thread is full of people discussing the game of course and to spread the joy.
It's not for everyone as I said, particularly the younger players needing that superficial hit, watching through the blinkers of apathy but hey that's their opinion right?
You can disagree but not 'condemn'
Just watched the review on Gametrailers Surprise surprise! The game get's close to a perfect score as usual despite looking like Resident Evil 48 BUT! With shadow people and fancy light weapons!
Imho it's pretty clear that this game has been turned to crap by Microsoft...
3 maybe 4 years ago: This game will be openworlded and awesome but that requires a Quad Core AND it will only work on Windows VISTA (Vista was pretty shitty at that time so this smelled like a M$soft payoff) but what do you do with a game when the OS you are developing it for stinks and is hated by a lot of people??
M$soft PR guy: I know let's ditch the pc and focus on the X-box so we have another exclusive and let's cut out all the content the console can't handle and repack it to be used either as a sequel OR DLC!! so we can get even more dough out of the morons who just gobble up every Resident Evil clone.
Journalist: But what do you tell the pc gamers who have been waiting for this game?
M$soft PR guy: First of all, shut up and take this bribe, otherwise you will never get anything from us.
To answer your question: We'll tell the pc gamers that this game would never work for them since this game will only work properly with a SOFA as an accessory!! Fuck! I'm Brilliant!!
maul_inc: Alan Wake isn't the first game to be overhyped and it won't be the last one. 3 maybe 4 years ago, Remedy didn't talk about what they had achieved so far, they were talking about what they would like to do if they had unlimited budget, people and time. None of these great ideas were implemented yet.
These are the same people who needed five years to create Max Payne, one of the most linear and streamlined games ever (but with great atmosphere). Why should they suddenly pull off "Grand Theft Auto: Bright Falls" with ease (GTA4 had a budget of ~100 million dollars and ~1000 people were involved in the project)?
This project would have turned into vaporware if they didn't tune down their ambition to realistic levels. See Duke Nukem Forever as an example how ambition can go wrong.
Too bad they didn't release it for PC too. fing microsoft with their xbox.
port shouldn't be too much of a problem. xbox is something like windows nt
And even if it does get ported to the PC, it might end up running as well as GTA4 did when it came out.
Or as good as most UE3 based games, or Capcom's MT Framework based games.
It all depends on optimization and actually caring to get a good result.
Alan Wake started as a PC project touted of being heavily multi threaded, so getting a PC version out of the door should not be hard at all.
I'm betting a late 2010 or early 2011 release if it ever comes, long after the hype washed out.
Of course the potential low sales on the platform will be due to piracy or low amount of gamers playing on it.
It will under no circumstances happen because they showed the finger to the platform's gamers and original backers, and also forced the developers to simplify the game to appeal a more attractive customer base which appeared years after the development of the game started.
Seems sales so far have been pretty bad for this title, meanwhile competition from titles like God Of War 3 and now Red Dead Redemption have reported record sales, heh.
EDIT: Though GoW 3 is a PS3 exclusive with Alan Wake being a X360 exclusive so far come to think of it, still Alan Wake has sold roughly a bit under 90.000 copies compared to GoW 3 with it's over 400.000 sold copies during the first day of sale.
(Or Heavy Rain with nearly 300.000 sold copies in a few days.)

It's the pirates' fault. Yeah ! PC pirates with quad cores have infiltrated console gaming and stole gazillions from the poor, generous Microsoft & Remedy employees.
Remedy: Of course, the PC release is still being thought out. However, we can't give any more info at this time.
Beginning of August:
Remedy: To be loyal to our PC fanbase, we will release this overpriced, uber-consolized PoS on PC in December for 10$ more that they usually pay for. Hooray!
January:
Remedy: The game sold very badly on PC, we were very disappointed. It only sold around 100k copies, thanks to massive piracy on PC market.
Q: But isn't 100k copies more than it sold on X360?
Remedy: Can't comment at this time.
Serves them right when they hopped to bed with microsoft, i knew this would happen all theese delays and release the game on a fucking console.. morons maybe they learned something with less cash now..
Well, I have played for like 3-4 hours or so and I have to say that this game is just average at best. It looks pretty good yes, but it's not scary, it's not very exciting and I don't know, there isn't much to motivate me going forward. I do enjoy the mystery of the story, but that's about it to be honest.
The combat is completely , I play on the hardest difficulty and I've used up like 2 or 3 batteries at most, never ran out of ammo and I'm using the pistol almost exclusively (And I'm not even thaaaat good at aiming on consoles)... Bah. Such a shame, I think this game would've been much better if they'd have kept it more open world like they planned, it could've been pretty unique.
