Cybmatt, to add something to your instruction:
Make SURE you start Tunngle before you start the game. If you started Tunngle while in game, restart your game.

When u quote something, atleast give credit to the real poster of this on cs.rin.ru...
He posted it 18min before u (both boards are on GMT+1 for me, can provide screens.
Edit: fuck it here is the screen:

Cause it's not possible that the guy on cs.rin.ru, who joined today, and only has 3 posts, copy-pasted it, right?

It follows X360 & PC Double Agent pretty directly. Most of the stuff that happens in Conviction is a consequence of what happened in DA.
BTW, just finished the game on realistic, took me 5 hours 30 minutes. Overall- if you want to play an interactive "24" game, you might like it. As a Splinter Cell fan I'd rate it 4/10, since it brings absolutely nothing to the stealth franchise, even more, it actually takes a few steps back from CT or EVEN DA.
And the storyline.. So much cheese...

I couldn't bring myself to play more than second mission. All the retards yelling "Come out Fisher, bla bla bla" I guess Ubisoft didn't want console tardos to get surprised by an enemy, so they have them yell their lungs out
Even more hilarious is "Protect your eyes, I'm throwing a flashbang" two-three seconds before they throw

The best stealth game is, and will probably always be ... commandos 2!
And then a good nice gap before chaos theory perhaps. I have always found SC games easy, even on hardest difficulty, though it was very balanced, I never ever got frustrated. So the difficulty was tuned towards fun for sure, and I did have enough use for a brain.
Double Agent wasn't as big a letdown as most said, however since I am color blind (partially), I couldn't see the difference between green and yellow, so I made a booboo every once in a while. (I strived for 100% stealth score).
So we arrive to Conviction. For a stealth game it's slim. Very slim. Takes zero brains. For a shooter, it's messed up. Forced mouse smoothness.
Why oh why the FUNK?!! don't developers get, that any PC gamer with some history FUNKIG LOATHES mouse acceleration and/or smoothing. Aside from the many design related mistakes the game has (to make it short:utter dumbed down gameplay), I would expect an AAA studio to make at least the controls feel fine. They failed once more.
It wouldn't be fair of me to just point out the bad parts, the game has one strong point: presentation. Yes, it's style over substance, but it has friggin' very nice style for sure. The world feels nicely detailed, the flashbacks have originality (in presentation), things are delivered nicely. Fisher is somewhat believable. I loved the camera angles... but this is it.
Unlike most zealots here, I don't think Ubisoft is the devil. It's natural to want to protect their game. I feel many posters on sites like this one are preteen asshole internet communist wannabes. that will change with their first job or IRL problem, but until then they think it's a noble cause to bring down bad evil corporations like Ubisoft. Twenty years from now, they'll be wishing they studied instead.
But anyway, back to Ubi. I don't wish them ill for their DRM. If anything, I want them to find a good way to protect their goods. Furthermore, AC2 kicked ass, and was one of the best games of the last couple of years.

It looked kind of artsy and cool the first two or three times but then it just got annoying and detracted me from the game, prevented the little immersion I could get.
I appreciate the idea and from a design perspective it looks cool, but I think it's detrimental to game play. Other than that, a seemingly alright action game, too bad it's named Splinter Cell. Maybe the Co-Op is more fun? |
Yeah, the text on walls would have taken my attention from the gameplay too ... if there was any gameplay.

Jesus fuck those AI voices were terrible. Who thought that would be a "cool" thing to do? It doesn't even come across as something they tried to do intentionally bad (ala Just Cause 2's hilariously racist VAs). It's one the worst things I've ever seen in a game. At least use different voice actors ffs if you're going to make them shout like retards. |
It's obviously on purpose so you can hear where they all are. Can't have console or non hardcore "gamers" take a risk, you know? Another funny thing that made me roll my eyes was no matter from what distance you shoot a light, they all yell "fuck" or "jezus, where did that come from" or shit like that. It's not even logical, one second the retards yell "Where are you Fisher? I know you are there!" and a second later they yell in complete terror "Who did that" or "Where did that come from"

*sigh* This bloody game doesn't seem to work properly for me. It has graphic artifacts all over the main menu. I can't even click on "new game" since I can't see it. It seems that several people with 5870s and Win7x64 expereience the very same problem.

Minireview:
(Disclaimer: I haven't -and I won't- finish this)
What a mediocre game.
It looks kinda good (but it's heavy as fuck and I don't even know why), the style is kinda cool, but as many of the other posters said, this isn't Splinter Cell.
For starters, I can't tell if this is an Stealth or an Action game, because it really sucks in both departments.
The stealth part is on rails (Well, the whole game is). Let's see, everything turns into black and white when you're hidden, then where the fuck is the challenge?, also it adds a little indicator thingy that shows the direction where you are seen. I mean, do Ubisoft thinks we're all kids who can't play jack shit? You can't distract the enemies, you can't whistle or throw stuff to create diversions, the ony way is to get their attentions is to do a Michael Bay: Blow shit up.
And the action, two things: mouse acceleration and fucking big ass reticles. Sam is a fucking SEAL he can cap your ass with a crappy weapon, so why I must add all this shit to my gear if I'm fighting in a CQC situation with a guy that could kick Solid Snake's ass? This trend of updating shit is ridiculous, it distracts you from the story and separtes you from the badassery of the main character.
The story: I have no clue, something about EMP's and his daughter. The narrative is kinda creative but really intrusive and also, its pretty good making you think "What the fuck am I supossed to do now?".
Anyway, play it if you are a big fan of the character, this isn't Splinter Cell, it's a cross between The Bourne movies and 24.
I give it, 2 out of 5 Trollfaces:

Finished it, cca 6 hours. Took them 4 years for 6 hours. It's a fun action game, with colorful maps and game mechanics but set up for console retards and not very stealthy. Story dynamic is cool, engine performs like shit, my PC runs Crysis better on High.
3/5 trollfaces.
Asus, B550, 3700X, 3060, 32GB.

Spoiler: | yeah you have a point, what was the story of this game? the only thing i could decipher from this retardation story line was :
Female president wanted to close Third Echelon for not being so effective after Lambert death and Fisher disappearing
New Boss of Third Echelon was pissed hearing this... (who was the terrorist mole in DA)
So he used his renaming power to smuggle EMP's to disable the security systems, kill all staff that was against Third Echelon in the White House and put a new president that was Pro Third Echelon Funding. |

I didn't mind the text on walls crap, but I really was annoyed that your reward for playing stealthily is viewing the entire game in black and white. Especially when you have a fucking green bluetooth light in your ear that could easily have been used to indicate shadow status. And why can't we control the movement speed with mousewheel anymore? That was the best non-analog movement solution I've seen in a game and they had to get rid of it so we can switch between the gadgets? wtf.

Is there a way to use the X360 controller emulator? It doesn't seem to work, if I use it the key bindings are all incorrect, and there is no way to change the key bindings manually, if I don't my regular controller just isn't recognized...

I think it's a bug, AC2 had the same issue, they can't even port the fucking controller scheme.

the only way to walk slowly or fast or stealthy is when you play it on a pad with a analog stick that controls the speed of your movement, like it was in the xbox360 version
