I thought you were speaking of something entirely different. I have checked, as said before there is both english and chinese there, but only chinese shows any subs when the navi speaks.

VLC explains it all, actually Laughing VLC is complete shit to be honest. Old codecs, incomplete support, etc. You have just experienced it. Get either Media Player Classic Homecinema or KMPlayer and ditch the crap. Smile

well there are other ways.. you can download something like mkvmerge which will let you look at the individual items inside an mkv file... but you say youre new to this so id say best, cheapest, easiest option.... do a subtitle search... find the na'vi-only dialog in english for the wiki release, and use it like you would normally use some subs. that will work.

I take it the directvobsub text is the navi text?

just download the straight srt file for the wiki release for the english version of the navi-only subs. im sure theyre out there. just use those.

or download mkv extract, extract the sub file, and rip it yourself if youre feeling plucky.

No, they didn't, they just used some tool which adds these to the subtitle. It's all within the subtitle format's spec. Not their fault shit players don't support the spec. It's like blaming encoders for using H264 quality features because CoreAVC doesn't support them. Razz

I watch the Amiable 1080p version last night and it was fantastic. Only problem is that the nfo says Subtitles English Forced but there were no subtitles during the Navi language parts. What's up with that? Anyone else run into this?

I have the release also. You have to select the subs from the player menu. There should be two entries. The Na'vi only and the regular the show throughout the movie. I watched it in VLC and looked great.

yup I watched it on my WDTV and can confirm that you need to select the na'vi subs manually from the 2 included tracks.
they also have typos btw.

Yeah I noticed capital letters at the end of a word etc. Also the font size is a bit too large. I don't think you can decrease it.

When I play the movie in Media Player Classic the subs don't show up at all. Don't know why.

I'm just wondering is it that difficult to include proper subs in a movie that can be turned on or off via the player menu? Some releases don't even include them for whatever reason or have typos like in the AMIABLE release.

I just tried it in MPC HC and the subs are enabled by default and work perfectly fine.
And I can also change the size without any issues.

Ok I figured it out. When using MPC HC I have Haali media splitter loading. When I click on the Haali icon in the taskbar I seen that the subs where turned off.

Excuse me Sir, but from I´ve heard Flawless releases are simply the best. I know avatar´s release is 24gb, but it´s 1920x1080 @ 17 Mbps.

Dont talk shit unless you actually know what you´re talking about.

"eureka or flawl3ss which one do people recommend and why?

This release has:
- A higher bitrate which means it is higher quality [looks better]
- DTS MA rather than standard DTS [sounds better]
- Hardcoded English subtitles for Navi speech [for ease of use]
- The FLAWL3SS logo [is better]

Quote:

I dont know about this one. I do know about the 10gb one and its mint. It doesnt glitch once all the way through , has subs for non english parts , and is such wicked eye candy!!! Id like to know if anyone got both of the releases? Has anything been noticeable, difference wise, between the two? Thanks!

The scene release has a fairly starved bitrate and is blocky during high movement scenes. It's your choice whether you want to download this one, it's better quality if you want to keep it but if you have no intention to watch it again then I wouldn't bother."

Once you reach transparency more bitrate doesn't add anything to quality. I don't claim that either of the encodes is totally transparent but more bitrate isn't always needed.

Show me an abx log that proves you can abx a track encoded with DTS and DTSMA, consider it has to be from the same master (studios sometimes use slightly different masters for different audio tracks resulting in audible differences that aren't related to compression)
Pey wrote:

Hardcoded subs suck. They hurt compression by adding hard lines to the picture which is a nightmare for codecs. If you want untouched subtitles, you should add the untouched stream to the mkv.
Pey wrote:

Possible.

I don't want to say that either version is better, but your arguments are not valid.

I used navi subs taken from the cbgb release, and then used mkvmerge to add the .srt to the wiki .mkv (and delete the chinese while I was at it).

i said i dont trust flawless because theyre a shitty outfit that exists solely on other groups work, repackaged/recycled with their name slapped on it... just went through and grabbed a couple of random flawless releases to check their info..

Shutter Island (2010) 720p TC LiNE XviD MP3-FLAWL3SS

Used the same audio as everyone else, whether this is actually HD or just an upscaled DVD is a debate for another time.

Encode Source........: CANT REMEMMBER LOL

Shes Out Of My League (2009) TS.XviD-FLAWL3SS

and after what you said about what they think constitutes a 'high end 1080p release', yeah... im sticking by my statement. i dont think much of flawless at all.
