I use Fraps. You can use Sony Vegas or Windows Live Movie Maker to reduce the size. A 7 min video in 720p is about 260mb after that.

With what settings do you fraps, full size 30fps?
And to what settings do you convert to divx?

Nothing you can really do about big file sizes from fraps, even if you lower the quality/fps, it's just dumping out raw video, encoding it takes time and a lot of CPU power so that step has to be done after.

You take your cellphone and use its camera to film your monitor. Obviously, that's how the cool kids do it.

I got a quad core, and my PC is always online, so I don't have a problem with that. It seems I have to buy a new HDD though..

I recommend using H.264 instead of DivX/XviD.

Also you can use this tool that comes with all sort of codecs out of the box http://www.mediacoderhq.com/

Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.6 GHz | Asus Z170 Pro Gaming | Corsair Vengenace LPX 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz | MSI GeForce GTX 1080 FE | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB + 250 GB | EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 | Fractal Design Define R5 | Noctua NH-D14

Make sure you've got a big hd and use fraps. Best there is imo. You just need to code it afterwards like some people have mentioned. You can get it in really good quality.

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
