Is there any real difference, or is it just a matter of preference? Also, should I go Asus? I tried a Samsung 23 inch and returned it immediately - it had a yellow tint that couldn't be adjusted and the unit was NOT defective.

Ive got an Asus VW246H and im very pleased with it.
This is my second screen cuz of something wrong with the electrical imput that was making strange noises and sometimes turning off the screen if i just moved or touched the bench its on. Now that ive got my new one on the other hand ive had zero problems.
I think you should go for the bigger one, size matters you know Very Happy

I'm upgrading from a 20inch and 23 is big enough isn't it? I'm afraid 23.6 or 24 would be too much...

It's a "console" AR, real PC users have 16:10. Laughing

16:9 is less practical for working since you have less space on top or bottom but a lot of unused space on the sides.

Cool, cause I have 1680x1050. But some movies have bigger ratio and I get bars Sad

Why can't the motherfuckers decide on a standard ? Amirite ?

With 16:10 you ALWAYS have bars when watching movies.

Depends on whether the TV show was filmed in 4:3 or 16:9 Razz

I don't know...16:9 vs 16:10 doesn't seem like much of a change in terms of screen space.

As for TV rips. HDTV rips normally use a 720p or 1080p source, so they are 16:9, meaning you will get a 1 to 1 picture on the HDTV or other 16:9 screen. Movies however use a different (wider) AR, so there always will be bars (not on all movies though).

On my 24" i get fullscreen on all movies except really old ones that are 4:3 and Family guy for a reason, but i guess since its cartoony its in 4:3. Running 1920x1080 and it looks absolutely perfect.
24 isnt THAT big, its just the matter of getting used to it. Dont go buy a smaller screen just because you are uncertain of which to choose. Find a one which have a good contrast ratio multiple connection possibilities and an easy menu ( I hate screens with fucked up menus )
Either go to a store and test it out before you buy.

But thats just my opinion, follow it if you like. Smile

anndddd back to the topic:

I've been reading that the Asus monitors die after two-three months. People say they get a grey screen of death or something.

Anyone knows of a good monitor instead?

Hmm, havent heard of that. Mine has worked flawless except from that first one with a loose screw or something with the power connection.
