I'd go for the NEC. The average wrinting speed is good and it burns almost everything on every brand of media.
I've had several NEC burners over the years and I've never had any problems with them.

All of those are good choices. But the NEC ND-35xxA takes the cake.

Pros: Avg. DVD+R DL burn speed = 3.8x compared to other drives 2.3x
Avg. DVD+/-R burn speed 11.9x compared to 7.7x for LG-GSA-41xxb
and 6.2x for Lite-ON SOHW-16xxS

Cons: Avg. DVD-Video DL burn speed = 3.3x compared to 6.0x for
LG-GSA-41xxb and 6.1x for Lite-ON SOHW-16xxS

I would go for the Nec ND-3520A. I myself own a 3500A and i'm very pleased with it. So far i had no coasters at all, though the downside is that the NEC doesn't support PI-Sum reading etc, the lite-on does. But if you take quality medias wich are in the list from nec you should be fine.

One more advice: Never go for the highest speeds. I just bought ricoh 8x dvd+r and the nec offers me 12x, but if i burn them with 12x the quality is not the best, so i always burn them with 8x and the quality is great ( i tested that on a plextor)

Personally I would choose the Plextor because of the quality, guarantee and media support. But of those three I should choose the Nec.

Plextor drives are good but not better then any of the above. Have not tested the newest PX-716 model, but PX-712 is not a better choice. It can't even burn a DVD+R DL.

Yes, PX-712 is not a good choice if you need DL support. Try checking out PX-716 serial ata edition. When you got that you don't wanna try anything else. Lucky you guys in the US have it in stock. We still have to wait for it Sad.

I believe It's mainly used in some uber deluxe camcorders instead of Hi-8 tapes.

Well i can only give you the advice to look out for media wich your drive manufacturer recommands. So if you decided to buy the NEC you can look here for media (3520 that is):

http://www.de.nec.de/software/1820_Medialist_ND-3520A.pdf

I only use well known brand names wich are recommended for my drive. This way i have never had a single coaster yet, and all my discs are still readable. Of yourse it also depends on the importance of the data. If you say it's okay for you that some of the discs can't be read in maybe 2 years then you can buy real cheap ones.
To the link you provided: I don't know this brand, but for $2.99 you can try them anyway, i mean that's a real bargain.

And please use tinyurl or something like that if you give long links who mess with the frames Smile

I read an article, i think on cdfreaks, which explained the two standards abit. By my judgement, DVD+R(W) is much better of a standard with much better error-correction capabilities and expandabilities than the DVD-R(W) format.

If your curious go dig it up Smile
