Actually, if you remember BD+, the so called unbreakable BD protection (Laughing), until it was cracked, people had different methods of exporting the video (like direct HDMI capping). The Simpsons is a prime example, it was crack much later, yet I watched it in 720p bluray. HDBits FTW, they will find a way. There is always a way.

I love how people that can't afford 3d devices rush to call 3d a gimmick ... which clearly shows you did not have a proper showcase of the possibilities of full 3d. And at the end movies are just 50% of whats fun about 3d, what about games, sports ... I just built a new theater room with a 105 inch screen and about to switch my projector to a 1080P 3d one as soon as its available and somewhat affordable (under3k)\
So, instead of writing bs one liners about how bad 3d is, why don't we discuss future a bit.

What would be the next step in display tech development? I mean resolution and picture quality is already hitting max, all we have left is oled which is still way overpriced and not used in large displays. 3d is the only technology that makes sense to me in regards to furthering the experience to a new level.
I do understand that at this time its not perfect, and there will always be companies that will try to capitalize on it by using it as a gimmick, but to say 3d in avatar is not good is just wrong.

Btw, this just crossed my mind the other day, I just started using skype with family and friends recently (i dont know why just now lol) but how cool would it be in few years to have a laptop, with oled display with skype 3d - to be able to talk to family and friends in 3d without glasses - it would be soooo cool. So I see potential for this technology to really penetrate the market and find its right place and audience.

3d has to be at least a part of the future of high definition technology.

3D with stutter glasses is bad. Plain and simple. With projector, things are better, as most of the cinema techniques can also be adapted to that, but with HDTVs the only option for now is 120Hz and stutter glasses, and that is awful, not to mention bad for eyes.

Thats why I said a combination of things, I want to see where the technology goes as I have problems with anything like that, I suffer from headaches easily and I dont want to save and shell out for something that is going to be usless to me for any length of time.

With Avatar finding its way onto DVD and Blu-ray next Monday, director James Cameron has been chatting about the franchise to the Los Angeles Times.

And while confirming that he’s prepping six minutes of extra footage for a Stateside cinematic Avatar re-release this August (no word if we’ll get that on UK shores), he spoke a little more about his plans for Avatar 2.

“We created a broad canvas for the environment of film,” Cameron said. “That’s not just on Pandora, but throughout the Alpha Centauri AB system. And we expand out across that system and incorporate more into the story – not necessarily in the second film, but more toward a third film.”

“Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment,” Cameron elaborates, “a different setting within Pandora.

“I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well.”

... i dunno... switching primarily to the oceans? is it still focusing on the same characters from the first film? if so, why would the jungle based characters suddenly go off to sea... just sounds a little contrived to me... like a total random switch to create a new story... i dunno... im definately up for more avatar, so ill just have to see how the story progresses, but i really wasnt expecting an ocean focus, because it doesnt really make sense within the bounds and rules of the first movie... and i definately want to see more of the characters established in the first film.

and re-release.. fuck yeah... gotta beat that $3bn mark Very Happy

Definitely the best looking live action Blu-ray I've ever seen. The bitrate is insanely high, it's gonna suck for people who download 1080p rips that just can't handle the action in this movie.

I wouldn't consider this movie "live action", it's more like "CGI with some human actors copy-and-pasted into it". Therefore it shouldn't suffer from much grain and look great even at modest bitrates like the Disney/Pixar movies.

Also, transcodes never suck as long as you get good rips. There are people who follow the 720p -> DVD5 and 1080p -> DVD9 rules like a religion but they only get what they deserve, so it's fair Very Happy

EDIT: typo

Dude, in the third episode they'll be in space. Having a native jungle people enter the oceans is a very short step compared to suddenly become hardy space faring warriors.. Wink

Cameron is at maximum profit mode right now. He has a lot of experience regarding under water filming and everything, thanks to titanic and the follow up documentaries he has done. So it's very natural for him to tell a story about that, otherwise he would have to invest a load of money again.
