I'm about to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP... im a bit late, i know, but i just got Just Cause 2, and it doesn't work under XP Crying or Very sad . I need help in choosing which version to get, i know next to nothing about the differences between Home and Professional, so if someone can let me know, i'd really appreciate it.

Get a 64 bit version if your hardware is capable to run it.

There is a lot of info here: http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55028

The only difference that would make any difference to me, would be the Windows XP Mode, and only for old(er) games, does that make much of a difference, or could i do without it?

Windows XP Mode can be a good feature but it obviously depends on if you need it or not. Most apps and games work fine on Win7 but with some older software you might experience problems. If you are not planing on buying Win7, you might as well just download and install the Ultimate version.

XP Mode is useless for most games, because there is no HW accelerated OGL or DX inside the Virtual Machine, unless we speaking DOS games, and even then, a properly configured DOSBox will do a much more adequate job than any general purpose VM. Smile

You won't be able to play game in XP mode since it's a repackaged Virtual PC, ie. it emulates XP so you can kiss most hardware acceleration good bye. You may get some old classics running but that's it. As newty said, most if not all current and recent games works just fine in Win7.
