Connected console numbers jump 64% in US
A new report by Parks Associates claims that the number of broadband-enabled games consoles in the US has jumped by 64 per cent to around 18 million households between the end of 2008 and the end of 2009.

The research, in a report entitles Digital Lifestyles: 2010 Outlook also notes that the number of households connecting a PC to a TV has risen by 36 per cent in the same time frame to around 12 million.

Additionally, it's claimed that a third of connected Xbox 360 owners are streaming online video via their console.

"Many households are working with devices they already have to get the connected-TV experience, which shows strong future demand for connected TVs, web-enabled Blu-ray players, and networked digital media players such as Apple TV and Roku," said Kurt Scherf, VP and principal analyst at Parks Associates.

"Manufacturers and service providers should examine these consumer behaviours closely, so they can match their current and future connected offerings with actual demand without pricing themselves out of the market," he added.

Im not surprise, 90% of my friends including myself gave up on PC gaming for beeing to pricy and lack of good games. PC still have good games but not as it used to be 5 years ago. There's no real good exclusives, you get shitty ports or get the same title as consoles but months even year after.

No one says you have to constantly update. Even with a 2 year-old rig you'll play the same games that are on consoles - just with better graphics. And PC does have great exclusives, but it all comes down to personal taste & genre preferences. Take Distant Worlds for example - great, great game that you'd never see on consoles.

PC gaming is for the hardcore savvy crowd. Now, that same hardcore PC gamer can enjoy console gaming as well. Console gaming without PC gaming is for the crowd that doesn't understand PCs or know how to build/configure a PC for gaming. This crowd will run into 1 small problem and bail instantly. There is also a crowd that will spend money on a Dell PC gaming rig. If something breaks they call the Geek Squad. I for one love PC gaming and console gaming. PC gaming is my number 1 and I build my own PCs. Console gaming is great because of the convenience of having to do nothing to get a game running. Also, the 65" TV helps as well. I know you can hook your PC up to a 65" too. But I don't enjoy using a mouse and keyboard while I am relaxing on the couch. But you need them ALL, including the PC, PS3, X360 and Wii for all the exclusivity of each. Ever since I got them all my gaming experience has been FANTASTIC!!!

My 2 cents, oh and for all those console only gamers that wish they could get into PC gaming as well, google is your friend!! No need for the Geek Squad! Smile
