Best 4X ever? I hate to say it after playing it for such a short time but ... yes, it really is. Blows GalCiv 2, Armada 2526, SoaSE and SoTS right out of the water. It needs some polishing and some bug fixing, though. (And yeah, better than SE V I think.)

Well, i must object.
a) it has no multiplayer, which means it can hardly claim any global best titles. You could only say: best SINGLE PLAYER 4x ever.
b) the 4x genre is kinda big and I personally think that there are a few (non space strat) 4x games that deserve the BEST title a lot more than this does. Lets just say: best single player 4x SPACE STRATEGY ever.
c) the game is so bug ridden, thats its not even funny. The only reason im not throwing it is its awesome potential. + the fact that i'm having fun with it, despite the bugs. So i would rather stick with: COULD BE THE best single player 4x space strategy ever.

Other than that, i more or less agree. The game has lots of potential. Too bad it has so many - how did the matrix games dude say? - rough edges. Rough edges, lol.. sure we can say that, thing is.. i do not see any polish around those rough edges myself. Anyway, in my opinion, between the economy problems and frequent crashes, the game is bordering unplayable. The fact that you can have fun even with a game in this state: now THATS what tells a lot about this game.

About to buy this. What's the "Extended Download Service" it added to my cart when I added the game?

Edit: Nevermind I guess, just a cheap way off adding to the price of the game. This is why STEAM is the only digital distribution I like.

I have a fairly modern PC, but I also find myself doing a lot of gaming on the older machine I use for coding (a 6 yr old, 3Ghz single core PC with 2Gb ram). It meets the minimum requirements, but does anyone think the game will struggle and chug for me?

Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

You can remove it from your cart, thats something digital river enforces be added automatically, if you register your game with the registration code you receive after purchase at matrixgames.com member area then you can always redownload your game there at no cost.

Downloading now! I like that they did this over the weekend so quickly. I like, too, that they apparently have a pretty comprehensive plan in place for more improvements.

So far i'm well overwhelmed , no idea what to do... the tutorial is less than helpful and the game is rather laggy in zooming in and out. I tell my ships to join fleet one but instead of heading off to fleet 1 leader they stay still. So far it isn't fun at all , this game will need more involvement!

Read what others have said about it first, theres a learning curve and until you pass that one, you have no idea what you're doing or what the ai is doing. It takes time to learn this game.

How's the overall stability now with the patch? Noticed your post (and you weren't the only one, heh) on the matrix forums about CTD/save issues.

With the beta patch the stability is very good for me. No crashes since I applied it. YMMV.

Well I began a new game immediately after the patch got released, it's now been 7 hours and I've not had a crash yet. So it's looking very good.

Uhhh, it's not an MMO. It's singleplayer-only.

Now we mateys have to wait till the patch's final version is released, so it can be easily downloaded. Unless the beta's included in SKIDROW's release.
