How are battles handled? Traditional RTS style, where you control your ships in realtime? Auto-resolving only? |
Traditional RTS style, you can give your ships orders to what they do, all battles take place on the same map as everything else, everything is fluid.
There is no "battle screen" or some such. The battles are a bit more tactical than your average Cnc game though you have to think about the roles the ships have to play during the design phase and then remember that when you use them in battle or you might lose them quickly.
Sure you can go for the swarm approach... then I'll laugh when your supply lines break down and all your swarm is dead in the water and the enemy fires a single nuclear torpedo into your swarm....

Last question , do the weapon graphics change as you research better weapons and can you get big weapons(beam cannons) e.t.c.
Thankyou ! |
Yes they do, theres various graphics for various weapons, but it's not a graphics heavy game, it's more a game of strategy, it's not as "beautiful" as "Sins of a Solar Empire" for instance, but the gameplay and the possibilities are alot deeper and better. I'd wager there to be hundreds of hours of gameplay here.
But in the end it really depends on what you like, if you're not a 4x person then you probably shouldn't be reading my fine words
And if you need to have 3d graphics and shader effects to enjoy yourself, well then this isn't for you either.

Put it on your ship and suddenly a green beam shoots out which was different than the bullet fire weapon from before. Basically every newly researched weapon is different
But i am a huge 4X fan |
Yes that is how it is, various classes of the same weapon have the same effect.

Same effect? Does the effect scale depending on the size of the weapon in that class? For instance a Large Laser Canon will have a thicker red/green beam then a Small Laser Canon.

I'm installing this bad boy now (legit purchase) despite the AAA price tag. Trusting Epsilon, here!
Hoping for a fuckawesome space experience. I want this to be good. Armada 2526 was kind of terrible after a few hours, let this be The Real Deal.

This will be terrible for the first few hours. Then it will get better as you play and explore the various aspects of it. At least it was this way for me.
When i first installed the game, i played for an hour, then dropped it and went to play other games Took me a day to muster the strength to give the game another try.
The game has such a sheer scope and it has so many things happening in it that is thrown right into your face, that it can easily be overwhelming at first. Dont be afraid of the automation features (I sure was at first ), like setting military or constructor ships on auto, etc. You will not be able to manage everything yourself. Once you start to play the game as if you would be the head of state, only making the important decisions, while leaving the everyday work to your subordinates (AI), it will be a lot more playable.

I bought it last night.
WOW.
Seriously sweet game if you're into these type games.
I love the modding aspect. I downloaded the mod Epsilon made, but I kinda like the music the game uses by default.
I will change it up though when it gets old.

don't spose anyone knows if there is a demo in the works for this game?
It's kinda pricey so I'd like to give it at try before i open my wallet, and sometimes these smaller indie games get skipped over by the groups.

i would rather see a release before i decide to buy it. i like what i've read here about it but i still need to see & play the game before actually buy it. because if it proves to be a disaster like armada 2526 then i kinda hate buying it.

I agree with this. Hopefully there will be one out soon. It's quite an expensive game considering what it is. £29.99!

So far. . . MUCHO better than Armada. Hell, Im with Epsilon. I think this is the best 4x strategy game I have ever played. A the least, it is my favorite thus far. The AI is truly something special.

Very quick early impressions from me: starts slow and confusing. Then gets much better. The economy is semi-broken right now (confirmed by the dev and a fix is in the works, probably released by Sunday). This game has a definite learning curve.
The AI suggestions are pretty damn cool. Had one suggest that I mount a surprise attack against an enemy by gathering my fleet at one planet and then striking an enemy research base behind his lines. I pressed the "Yes!" button and my fleet automatically gathered up, refueled, and executed the entire plan automatically.
Of course, you can turn all that stuff off and do everything yourself, too, but it was neat.
Going to play this all weekend, I think, then I'll be in a better position to make a real judgement. So far I do not feel like I made a bad move in buying this.
I can say this for certain: way damn better than Armada 2526.

I'd buy it if it was on Steam, can't be bothered going through the PP process and everything.

I love the game, best damn 4x I've ever tried. But it's being held back by bugs and sloppy programming, they claim they'll release a patch on sunday which will fix many of the issues, if they do that then they show immense amount of dedication to their customers. So I'm hoping for that.
I still can't stop playing it. Once you get past the learning curve then it becomes very addicting, right now I control everything myself, but when I was learning how everything worked out etc I had some automation on, this gradually became less and less as I became comfortable with the game.
Now quit complaining and pay my taxes you damn hippies on my homeworld, just because you don't have vodkol doesn't mean you can sit and complain all day!

You and me both, brother.
Best 4X ever? I hate to say it after playing it for such a short time but ... yes, it really is. Blows GalCiv 2, Armada 2526, SoaSE and SoTS right out of the water. It needs some polishing and some bug fixing, though. (And yeah, better than SE V I think.)
No hawt 3D graphics anywhere in this baby, but man oh man does it have the gameplay. There's always so much going on ... pirate factions screw with each other, the diplomacy has (so far) made sense(!), and the automation system lets you play Unconcerned King over your dominion if you want -- then lets you step in and manage everything right down to how many guns are on your little escorts. Totally up to you.
I thought the in-game editor was a nice touch, too. If the game gets too easy or too hard, or if you just want to throw some more stuff in, you can just click the editor button to edit factions, add stars, throw in a black hole or three ... it's just awesome and definitely not just for cheating. Great for a sandbox universe.
Epsilon, you didn't let me down. This game is a keeper.
