Yeah, I bough the game for 20$ and they want 15$ for maps.
Same story for me . Btw, I definitely find IW's masochism pretty entertaining to attend
I paid 49.99$ for the retail, boxed game. I just found that to be more safe then a cd key website. As for the DLC, there is still no confirmation that they will charge it on PC.
I'm sure here's plenty of people who still play this piece of shit so I need to know some things before I bother with the online.
1) What's the deal with the rank hackers? Does the host has to be the one who initiates this or just some player connecting to the game can make so you get bazillion points for a frag? Not that it would matter anyways, it's not like you can choose what game you get in but just for the info.
But when this happens can you do something so that it wouldn't get saved into your online profile (Steam cloud or whatever it uses). I'm thinking something like immediately unplugging the net cable and/or killing the game process from the task manager?
2) When you create your online profile, can you change your name later? Or can you delete/create new profiles with different names like in MW1? Just need to know if it's not like one Steam account, one MW2 profile with the one player name you're locked down with.
Profile. Change your Steam Community name and it changes your name in MW2.
Luck is the only way to avoid getting your rank lowered. You can use Easy Account Manager to backup your profile though, reverting to that if you get into a "hacked" game.
Yeah i havent touched MW2 in a while, but I still visit the steam forums to see if anything has changed (for the better). But I see A LOT of complaints about cheaters. It was BAD when I was still playing. I might be unlucky, but LITERARY every 3rd game had an obvious cheater. And when I decided to take a break from BC2 and try MW2 for myself, the VERY first two games I joined had obvious cheaters, and then we had freaking 2 obvious cheaters on 1 server (our cheater was better, so we won ).
But I hear that now cheaters are been paired with other cheaters (I think they look at the KD ratio to determine if you might be cheating). It is pretty funny to see those hypocrites whine about being paired up with other cheaters. (visit something like mpcfor*ms for the fun).
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.

believe me i played cod4 til mw2 came out and there wasnt so much cheaters like in mw2 now.i played 2 hours today and i had like 6 or 7 cheaters.1 or 2 per round.punkbuster was defentily better than vac.fucking iw amateur company.

You have to take reports on MW2 with a pinch of salt but.
Ever since the first hacker appeared, for every hacker seen a few hundred are also "seen" but useless players and / or just plain bad losers.
TBH I think the whiners are more annoying than the hackers these days as there's for more of 'em and they just won't bloody shut up!
True, but on the account of how many cheaters I have seen personally (and I mean obvious ones, not the ones "maybe hes cheating maybe he is not", but the ones "that motherfucker is jumping up and down and shooting people through the bushes in the middle of wasteland and getting only headshots" kind of mofos.)
Anyways this game is a waste of potential and the sooner it is forgotten, the better. We have a good MP in bc2, with dedicated servers with (some times whiny assholes) admins.

So how widespread this is? Would you say it's an exception if player hasn't ended up in one of those games and gotten his rank either raised or lowered? Or it's not that common?
And another thing, is it true that Activison or IW have set some date when they pull the plug and close down the MP?

Any particular reason You ask this?

Thats just speculations imo. IF they decide to (as you put it) pull the plug - im sure they will release a patch that changes their server system. You can still play Cod2 over the net and there actually are quite alot of people that do it too...im sure even a company like iw would like their customers to be able to continue to enjoy their game for ever and ever (even though theyve shown very little interest in their actual community so far)
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
Well it's a pretty silly question - if it's already happened...what use would unplugging do?
It's not already happened when it's not synced in real time with Steam Cloud. And when you kill the game's process instead of quitting properly then maybe it doesn't get correctly saved locally too.
And the reason I even asked this was because I read a post where someone said he pulled the power cable out and the hacked level didn't get saved. But that's just retarded. I'm thinking what I said should accomplish the exact same thing.

They both have their place but, they're different beasts.
BC2 is far harder to pick up and play a few rounds with mates when you're on the piss, you need something more immediate where spraying is appropriate.
Hard to say on BC2, I'm still learning the ropes, but I'd say BC2 is potentially the better game, however MW2 is the more fun game. If that makes sense.
This is bullcrap, MW multi was epic 40 players at once man that was some shit and now this gay machmaking I have to wait longer then before and the system that was supposed to prevent cheaters is now breeding them somehow fuckers, they ruined a great multi game.
And this 10 player shit, motherfuckers, every map is like a ghost town.

this may be a good time to point out there are more people playing BC2:PC than MW2:PC right now
