What price do you pay per litre in your country's?
Here in the U.k there is talk of mass petrol demonstrations right now, and it isn't even summer yet.
Right now were being robbed at £1.17.p per litre.
Soon to be £1.20.p Tommorrow aftert that asshole of a government of ours add 3p per ltre in the budget.
How much is everyone else paying?
And while it fluctuates it's going to become more and more expensive over the years. Oil will be more difficult to drill for and get to, peak oil was reached years ago, it's on a constant decline, and when demand explodes in China we're going to have double the prices for petrol.

Two years time and electric car choice will ramp up...
5 years time and many many will use elec cars
10 years will and they'll be more common that petrol ones
15 years time they'll be 90% electric
20 years time we'll have a new issue surrounding electricity costs, and a push for more environmentally friendly electricity generation techniques.
25 years time and i'll be dead probs, so who gives a shit.
No. We won't have many many electric driven cars in 5 years. The battery technology is archaic atm.
Your 10 years estimate is wrong too... buying an electric car will be expensive. The ones who can't afford it won't change it. Or do you really think that more than 50% of the current drivers are able to buy a new car whenever they need one?
+ 90% electric?
Do you really think that we have the resources to rebuild ~700.000.000 cars?
I think you mean the new ones, but I even doubt that...
And to your 20 years estimate... Well actually we already have that problem and the people should do something against that RIGHT NOW! Not when it's too late ...
@ your last estimate: Don't fuck the cheap skanks, stay away from too much alcohol and cigs and you'll be fine
We should nuke rain china, it's big ass country with too many clones consuming more than half of what the rest of the population does.
DEY TUK OUR OYYYYL!!!

The electrical car is nice and all, but the infrastructure is developing too slow. What if I want to take a ride across Europe? Even in the middle of nowhere you'll find a gas station.
Every 400Km's (the best achieveable atm) requires hours (six I believe) of charging up again. They're trying to dramatically cut that back to 15 mins though. Still, it'll be new technology and cost a shitload of money. Electrical cars are nice, but only for short trips in cities.
I don't think electric cars will ever dominate the car market.. Maybe they will be a big part of it, but not the only alternative. Biggest problem right now is recharging time, and how long you can go on one charge. It simply takes way too long to recharge a dead electric car. And sure, some recent discoveries regarding induction-type recharging may help the technology on it's way, but it's not a universal easy fix for the problem. And as Mister_s says - infrastructure. Converting a gas station to a station capable of recharging your electric car in 5 minutes is as of today impossible, more or less.
Right now, everything hinges pretty much on how much oil there is left, and politics. Take the politicians that promotes the use of E85/ethanol, what a bunch of fucking idiots. To produce and distribute ethanol today, you do more damage to the environment than you do when producing and distributing regular petrol. And also, you put more energy into the production than you get from it, wich isn't exactly good in the very long run, now is it?
And about oil - I wonder if anyone really has a good clue about how much oil that's left on this planet. Some say it will run out in a couple of years, some say 20, 50, 100 years. If only someone would figure out/let us know if we've reached peak oil yet, or not. We probably have though, I think..
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc
Biofuel is teh big hype, that's why many politicians support it. Even environmental organisations promote it. Anything goes as long as we step off the evil oil, that's probably their mindset. They don't seem to care it requires huge fields and that many farmers are going for biofuel now so food shortages are beginning to kick in. Deforestation (good word?) is a big problem too, biofuel production needs space.
As for oil deposits, it's impossible to know. Today we're all doomed because tomorrow the oil will dry up, tomorrow we find a new deposit using a new tech. The estimates have been 'corrected' so many times, they're pretty much a joke now.
One of my favorite conspiracy theories (pretty interesting how most of those inventors/physicists etc. end up dying suddenly)
When you think about all that the oil industry and other energy related industries could stand to lose, I certainly wouldn't put it beyond them to snuff out even half-promising ideas by any means necessary.

from what I've read initially the focus would be on a battery exchange rather than a re-charge
such as this company who is working on infrastructure issues...

floor-mounted battery packs in these electric cars are designed to be changed out in only a few minutes, allowing for battery-swap services like those proposed by Better Place and Tesla Motor
That's the reason the US is stockpiling billions of barrels of oil. They fear the chaos when oil becomes scarce and über-expensive and have been preparing since the 70'ies. Imagine if they increased the prices of petrol to European prices. It would be civil war. Hence the reason procurement of oil resources is the #1 issue in any foreign affair (whether business deal or military invasion).
Personally I think we should put all our efforts into Hydrogen fuel and an even higher degree of exploration and research into fusion power (first functioning experimental fusion plant, DEMO, is planned to begin construction in 2024) to get there sooner. Meanwhile modern fission plants used to charge the hydrogen fuel will suffice.
There are new developments in hydrogen fuel that makes it more effective while cheaper to produce (hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in the universe).
about 1.25 euro/liter here and fuck me it's way up
robbing me blind with my 1.8 engine (maybe it would help not to shift at 4000 revs and usually drive at max speed , ~160kph in my case )
gonna have to switch to a god damn diesel when i'll afford it
and fuck hybrids , i want a god damn manual gearbox , not some pussy ass automatic.
I don't have a car, so I don't really know. What I do have, is a stack of euros burning a hole in my pocket at the end of the month. Not driving a car seems to make a large financial difference.
