9 hours in, 8% completed. Massive game, the sheer scale of it is still amazing me. At first I thought the missions were a bit too easy (I find GTA missions a bit too hard in later levelS), however they're starting to get a bit harder without being impossible. The freedom you have to fly around and shit is really great.
I am starting to find it a little limited (more destructable environments would be nice), and frustrating at times (finding all of the weapon power ups is a pain in the ass). Also the loading times are annoying - it takes ages to fly across the map, which means you use the transporter guy - however he's annoying, and it takes ages to load him up...
However, so far, all of the missions have been REALLY exciting and varied. This is probably my favourite game of 2010 so far, and the voice acting is poor at times yes, however in some cut scenes it's fantastic...
Either way, theres plenty to do, and lots of fun to have... just a shame you cannot destroy villages / bases further...

Okay, it finally got boring the very moment I've unlocked the last black market item and upgraded my fav weapons to the max (rifle, sub mg and mg). Even chaos stopped accumulating because everything was unlocked, I guess.
And considering the fact that I had the small copter (Rowlinson K22) upgraded to the max which added miniguns and great speed @ only $30k, the missions turned into ever repeating scheme: fly to mark 1 minute, gun everything down from above 10 sec, mission complete.
Clever GTA devs forced you to use a bike, a scooter or whatever during chases or takedowns, here you just park your K22 near the mission start, accept the mish, hop into the K22 and there you go, no need to snipe or chase a paparazzi on a bike
All in all it was a great experience, too bad the devs couldn't make it interesting from the first minute till the last one. Which is epic fail considering that it ain't their first attempt.

Save your game thru Start menu, you'll have the completion % there. BUT bear in mind that it includes every goddamn village, collectible and race etc. so you can't really see how far are you in story-wise.

This game is irritating the hell out of me sometimes. Why is it I'm always stuck on 97% and can find the last part. I wish they had a radar for the explodables too. Also the respawning enemies are a pain in the ass too

It would be really helpful if the radar had a zoom feature. I noticed that when you are around collectables, it will show a kinda white dot. Reason I ask is I have been thru a faction base numerous times that I've destroyed completely and I'm looking for the collectable or object that will take it to 100% I can't find the bastard anywhere. I even tried flying around the base in a chopper and using a parachute. Nothing after hours of searching.
With this going on plus the god damn military attacking you every fucking chance they get. Example: I'm standing around a checkpoint to activate a mission, next to a military jeep (one just happens to be in the area). The fucker doesn't like me standing there and starts bitching, I ignore him and what does he do? Triggers a fucking alert and sends the police after me from all directions. The other thing that will happen is faction members will start attachking the military police and if your in the area for awhile when this happens alerts are triggered. Can we call this overactive AI..? I suppose if it wasn't for them there wouldn't be much resistance but Jez, lay off.
I've got a lot of places found on my map that I've destroyed but never gone back to get 100% on them. You know those half-ass ones. I call them that since they don't read 100% but are completely destroyed as far as government markings and such.

When I manually save, the game always returns to the last checkpoint.

Done 4 main and 32 faction. Finally a game with decent length. Played 11-12 hours

Oh, so I was almost at the end. 6 agency missions and 29 faction mish. 27 or 30 hours, most of 'em wasted on box collection to max out some weapons and a couple of vehicles.
Btw, the whole black market vehicle collection is totally useless apart from the already mentioned K22 minicopter (maxing it out is strongly recommended) and the min jet (no need to max out). The maxed out copter is perfect for completing missions (and it's so quick it can easily evade SAMs) and you need the mini jet to travel fast to faraway locations that you haven't discovered yet. The rest is 100% useless.
The armored car with cannon is kind of fun for wreaking havoc when maxed out but it ain't worth the 100k price tag.

Well, GTA IV is unbeatable, because it looks and feels better, like a real city plus the story & acting is Hollywood grade. JC2 has neither.
Fooling around is okay as long as you need chaos or upgrades. After that it's pointless and boring. So no 100 hrs there unless JC2 becomes the last xbox game on earth available.

Exacly my thoughts but then I installed it on the PC, added some mods and now its even more fun.

60 fps or 15, whatever, but GTA IV is the only game right now where you can really enjoy driving around the city, just for the pure pleasure of it. That's a serious accomplishment. Even my wife who generally doesn't give a fuck about games sometimes stopped near the telly just to watch some incredible sunrise viewed from a bridge or a motorboat.
Even some art and cinema industry people admit that the atmosphere in GTA IV is amazing. And that's exactly where JC2 falls flat on its ugly face, no mater how many hundreds of cloned missions it has, lol.

You simply cannot compare this somewhat mediocre game to the great GTA IV! As Waargh said, the map may be huge, but it lacks so much detail and all-around "lifefulness". It feels pretty dead, empty, lifeless compared to Liberty City, wich has so much life and feels so much more alive and breathing. Regarding missions, both games have missions tailored to fit the games style and setting - and even there, you can do JC2-esque missions in GTA IV/Episodes of LC.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think JC2 is a bad game, I just think it's way out of Rockstars/GTA's league.

Driving against cars look like a pinball machine and the shooting u got to pump in like 10 bullits to kill a dude and then you wonder why you run out of bullits so fast. |
yep for sure, also that grapple hook thing is a bit clunky. Can the dude sprint? Noticed some dirty screen tearing too. Seems like the first game, so if anyone tired of that I dont see this wowing them. |
played for 3 hours or so, this comment still stands pretty much. A bit slicker, but still lacking any real depth
